📌 Haldex 4WD Failure: What’s actually happening inside your control module? 💧🔧
This Audi TT was booked in with us at BVR Automotive after the customer noticed multiple warning lights illuminated on the dashboard, alongside a complete loss of the Quattro/all-wheel-drive system.
When it comes to VW Group 4WD systems, scanning for fault codes is only the first step. To find the root cause, you have to dig deeper.
Swipe/Look at the photos to see exactly what we uncovered when we stripped down the Haldex control unit:
1️⃣ Photo 1: Water ingress and heavy aluminium oxidation tracking right along the rubber sealing ring of the module casing. Once water breaches this seal, it pools directly inside the electronics.
2️⃣ Photo 2: Take a close look at that component level! Green corrosion has completely eaten into the circuit board, shorting out the module and cutting off communication to the rest of the car.
Why does this happen?
The Haldex module is mounted underneath the vehicle, exposing it to road spray, rain, and winter road salt. Over time, heat cycles and environmental exposure cause the factory seals to degrade. Once moisture creeps in, electrochemical corrosion takes over, destroying the delicate circuit board.
