Lovely Golf R in for a couple of different issues that we got resolved fairly easily.

This one had a parking Aid module fault and required a new module, there was Superseeded part available and we had Ed at A1 Remote Diagnostics scan in and quickly programme the module into the car.

I barely had time for a cup of tea. Wel actually I did have a tea and it was lovely

VW Golf.

🚗customer Complaint
No Reverse Lights when in reverse gear (Manual Gearbox).
We can activate the reverse lights using the scanner. Live data doesn't show Reverse gear selected,
A wiring diagram shows power down the yellow/black wire and then the switch sends that power back to the BCM via the blue/black wire. We confirm power present and bypass the switch with a jumper but the reverse lights still don't work...broken wires/bad BCM perhaps?

🚗 Complaint 2
Parasitic Drain, interestingly the boot opens by itself due to the boot switch activating every few seconds when the car is shut down. No water in the boot, new tailgate switch, no water in the connector blocks at the nsf foot well.

Is the BCM the cause of both faults? We will find out tomorrow...Part 1

Today I made a 3D printed cable holder for the Topdon Trolley.

🔥🔥🔥 New Tool Day 🔥🔥

🫶 I placed this trolley on order a few weeks ago and I was excited to receive it like most tools but when this arrived I was blown away by the quality. The delivery driver even stood for a couple of minutes admiring it 🚗

🫶 this is the Topdon UK diagnostic trolley. It is a very strong trolley built to last. Alot of thought has went into the design and arrives on a pallet already built. I particularly like all wheels being castor design so you can spin this thing 360° on the spot. The drawer doors have resistance at the hinge with a turn latch and don't just swing open or rattle when being moved. The quality really did impress me but I suppose you would need to see one and inspect it yourself to see that.

🌍 You may think I'm being biased or making it sound better than it is as you guys know I sell tools but it's not the case. Anyone who has ever called me for advice on the Topdon range will tell you I don't try and sell like a salesman would do. I'm just a tech like you guys 🤠

Now that I have the trolley I've found some ways I can custom it to suit life in the workshop. I immediately decided I'm going to 3D print hooks on the back to carry the T120A battery support leads. I plan on printing VCI holders to mount on the side, there is also a good opportunity to print other trims and holders that will easily slot into the Pre cut holes on the rear.

Not sure if it's healthy how exciting I get for new tools but it keeps me out of trouble and happy at work so keep your eyes peeled for the upgrades and I'll do a quick video.

Lastly..this trolley isn't cheap so if you're after a cheap one that's fine just go in Ali express nothing wrong with that as you guys know I also shop on Ali...but if you guys are after a proper trolley that will last and not fall over etc then get in touch and I'll do you the best deal I can .

Customer Complaint
When driving on the motorway for over 2 Hours the Engine Management Light cacan on the dash. A few days later the SRS light also came up on the dash.

📝 The Back Story
This customer purchase this car down in England which is 3 Hours drive from where she lives which is in Scotland, after collecting the car and driving it back home after 2 Hours of driving the Engine light came up on the dash, the customer contacted the Sales garage who then contacted me to ask if I can Diagnose the fault on the car as i'm located near the owner. She also experienced an SRS light on the dash .

📊 Diagnosis and Tools Used
using the Topdon Phoenix Max we scanned the vehicle for faults and found the Engine Oil Pressure Too Low P0524, and the SRS system B1410 Second Row Seatbelt Tensioner Deployment Control.
Firstly I researched the Oil Pressure Specification.
1500RPM = 1.3 to 1.6 Bar = 20PSI
45000RPM = 2.2 to 2.8 Bar = 40 PSI

Using the Topdon Phoenix Max we pulled up live data on the oil pressure and oil pressure control. We observed the oil pressure at 20 Psi at idle and then also 40 PSi when at higher RPM , when the oil pressure rises to 40 PsPSi we can see the engine control unit switch the oil control valve off which proves the ECU was controlling the oil pressure and also proves the engine is mechanically capable of building oil pressure.

*The oil smelled strongly of Fuel*

the SRS fault was relating to the Rear Right seatbelt pre tensioner, live data showed the resistance value of the tensioner out of OHMs range.

🫡 The Repair
i came to the conclusion that the oil was Diluted with Fuel causing the oil pressure to drop when it became really warm. The customer had to Drive at motorway speed for 2 hours before it triggered the fault. I carried out an Oil and filter change and erased the fault code.

A1 Remote Diagnostics

This Shaguar came in from another garage for a pedestrian message reset. I'm not familiar with this system but after replacing sensors the system requires reset with the Dealer tool only.

Darren went upto the snack van and brought us both back a Salt N Chilli wrap with curry sauce while Chris at A1 was doing the rest.

The job was successful because Chris knows what he's doing even if I don't. And the wrap was delicious 🤤

I'm lucky to have good tools and good friends in the trade. I honestly don't take it for granted

BMW MZ4 3.2

🔋 Customer Complaint of the Battery draining within a couple of days.

After locking the car up and waiting for about 30/40min the draw rests at around 90 Milliamps. Not a majorly large draw but still too much.

We will hopefully find where that extra draw is coming from tomorrow 🚗🍰💨

RS3 Green 💚🍏 (lovely)

Something a bit different.. customer request to install this Fancy steering wheel and transfer over the paddles, also had to wire up the steering wheel touch emulator and the Lin controlled buttons.

The worst bit about the job fitting the Air bag cover..ohh boy I had a squeaky bum. The replacement cover did not have the corner cut out of it like the original did so that meant I had to figure out why things weren't sitting correctly.

In the end the job was successful and the owner was really happy 😊 😁 😊
