Senior traffic commissioner turns focus on drivers at Transport Manager conference

🚛 Nobody starts their working day planning to hit a bridge. So what goes wrong?

That was the thought-provoking message from Senior Traffic Commissioner Kevin Rooney at Logistics UK’s Transport Manager 2026 conference in Somerset.

He revealed that around 200 drivers had appeared before him over bridge strikes in the past couple of years, highlighting how distractions and poor working conditions can contribute to serious mistakes.

His wider message? Many people appearing at public inquiry haven’t deliberately set out to break the rules - they’ve made mistakes with serious consequences.

It’s a reminder for everyone managing drivers: compliance means looking beyond the paperwork and understanding what’s happening behind the wheel.

🚛 TRANSPORT MANAGER REFRESHER TRAINING
📅 Monday 2 and Tuesday 3 November 2026

⭐ 14 HOURS OF DRIVER CPC AVAILABLE for attendees who need them. Please let us know when booking so we can arrange your Driver CPC place.

The Traffic Commissioner expects transport managers to keep their knowledge up to date and demonstrate continuous and effective management of their operation. If it has been some time since your last professional development, this two-day refresher is an opportunity to revisit your responsibilities and current road haulage compliance expectations.

It is particularly useful if you are returning to the role, gained your Transport Manager CPC some years ago, or want to strengthen your knowledge ahead of an operator licence renewal or review.

📩 Contact DMP Training to enquire or book your place. 01359 408090 / [email protected]
