Today, Bude-Stratton Town Council is flying the Red Ensign from the Elizabeth Mast on Summerleaze Downs to mark Merchant Navy Day.

Merchant Navy Day is an opportunity to recognise the contribution and sacrifice of Merchant Navy seafarers, past and present, and the vital role they have played in times of both peace and conflict.

The Red Ensign, also known as the ‘Red Duster’, is the official flag of the UK Merchant Navy.
