A whine that rises with road speed. A clunk when you take off. Oil weeping around the housing. Roughness through corners that wasn't there last year.

Diffs give you warning before they let go — the problem is the warnings are easy to live with until suddenly they aren't. And by then a seal job has usually turned into a bearing and gear job.

Here's the part most people don't expect: it might not be your diff at all. Wheel bearings, tailshaft and worn suspension all make noises that sound just like one. So we road test it, check the oil for metal and contamination, inspect the housing, seals and driveline, and confirm where the fault actually is before anyone starts quoting you on a rebuild.
