Life Imitates Art - Honda EK Civic

For most Japanese car enthusiasts of today, Initial D most definitely is a household name and has been a crucial part to popularising and enhancing the enthusiasm the younger generations to the JDM cars of the 80's and 90's.

"Hey, why is there a Civic in Initial D? Isn't that about drifting or something?"

Drifting isn't exactly the whole point of this manga/anime, but more about racing on the Japanese mountain sides known as the Touge. A major part discussed throughout the series is the differentiation between mountain and track racing, explaining that being skilled in one does not equate to being skilled in the other.

Now, where does the Civic come into play? Historically, Civics, AE86s and everything else in the similar class of vehicles will be sent at Mach 1 up AND down the mountain sides of Japan to prove who is superior. If you dig far enough on the web, you'll find a bunch of footage of intense racing between EF Civics and Corolla Levins basically breaking the sound barrier with their straight pipes.

You could spend a hefty amount of dough on a polished sim racing setup and you'll definitely have the time of your life chasing lap times.

However, you could find yourself a properly cheap runabout car for a fraction of that to throw around the track in real life ~ It may not make the most financial sense in the long run and it may not be the most convenient, but seat time in a real car is always a different experience compared to a sim racing setup.

We're not saying that tracking a real car is always better than a sim rig - The main point is to find the discrepancies between real life and the simulations so that you can pinpoint what you need to work on and target those techniques.
