Porsche tried to build a four-door for 60 years before anyone let them. A stretched 356. A 911 with extra doors. A cancelled V8 concept. Three design studies with names like Mirage, Meteor, and Phantom. The Mirage won — and became the Panamera.
Gen 1 wasn't everyone's favorite. Gen 2 made people forget that. Gen 3 made people apologize. What started as Stuttgart's most controversial decision became one of its greatest.
The haters had their moment. The Panamera had the last word.

From the Tequipment archives: the discontinued 997 carbon fiber folding bucket seat.
Debuting with the launch of the 2008 GT2, Porsche's factory carbon fiber folding bucket seat was the real deal — a genuine lightweight shell tipping the scales at just 39 lbs each, compared to over 55 lbs for a standard seat. Available in black leather with an embossed Porsche crest, or Perlon cloth, these were offered as an option on 997 and 987 models and even available as a retrofit — track-ready straight from the factory, with a fold-forward backrest that actually made daily use practical. Porsche discontinued them long ago, and sets in good condition are genuinely rare finds today. If your 997 or 987 is sitting on a pair of these, you've got something special. 🏆

From the archives: the discontinued Porsche Tequipment sport bucket seat.
In the late '90s and early 2000s, Porsche offered an optional Recaro Pole Position fixed bucket as a genuine factory accessory for the 996 Carrera and 986 Boxster — a lightweight, harness-ready shell straight from the Tequipment catalog. GT3 buyers could spec them in black leather or Perlon cloth, while standard models could be ordered in most interior colors: black, natural brown, savannah beige, graphite grey, and more. Porsche discontinued these long ago, and finding a set today is like striking gold. If your car is wearing a pair of these, consider yourself one of the lucky ones. 🏆
