šØ Dyed diesel on public roads? Donāt change your fueling practices based on the headlines alone.
President Trumpās October 5 executive order directs temporary federal diesel tax relief for October 5āDecember 31, 2026. But eligibility and conditions depend on federal implementation, and tax deferral does not mean the tax has been forgiven.
Hereās what businesses in our region need to know:
š WASHINGTON
Washingtonās Department of Licensing has confirmed that the federal announcement does not change state law. Untaxed dyed diesel remains prohibited on public roads unless specifically authorized under Washington law. Fuel tax and IFTA reporting requirements remain in effect.
š OREGON
Oregon customers should not treat the federal order as blanket permission to switch highway vehicles to dyed diesel. Energy Marketers of America cautions that the order alone does not authorize on-road use and advises waiting for applicable federal and state guidance before changing sales, tax collection, or compliance practices.
Crossing state lines adds another consideration: relief in one state does not establish permission in the next.
At Star Oilco, our recommendation is simple: continue using clear diesel in your on-road vehicles unless you have confirmed that your specific use qualifies under all applicable requirements.
