Tribute

It’s not the belts or titles won
nor crowds that cheered his name.

It’s how he stood for those beside him through the
loss and pain.

For some men fight inside the ring
and some through life each day.
He taught us both with quiet strength
and never walked away.

The road was never smooth for him
the odds were often long.
Yet through the trials life had dealt
he chose to stand up strong.

His legacy is not a tale
of how his life was done
but in the people he helped rise
and all that he’d become

And when the gloves are hung away
and silent falls the bell
the lessons that he left behind
will in our hearts still dwell

A coach may teach the hands to fight
the feet to move with grace
but character is forged within
and no one can replace

Through years of fights, we shared the road
of victory and losses.

And though I helped to train the man,
He taught me things of life.

I will miss you, my athlete, my friend.
