This R56 MINI came to us after another shop replaced the engine and couldn’t figure out the transmission faults that followed.

What started as a transmission wiring repair quickly turned into something much bigger.

After fixing the damaged internal transmission wiring harness, the owner asked us to inspect the rest of the car and we kept finding problems: loose subframe bolts, damaged hoses, a damaged valve cover, and multiple signs of poor workmanship.

Then we removed the valve cover.

The timing chain guides on the replacement engine were completely destroyed, forcing us to remove the oil pan as well to clean broken timing chain debris out of the oil pickup before it caused catastrophic damage.

Unfortunately, this is a perfect example of why specialty shops matter. These cars require platform-specific knowledge, proper tooling, and attention to detail to ensure the job is done right the first time.

The good news? The car is finally getting the attention it should have had from the start.

A lot of the time, what brings a car in isn’t the only issue.

This came in for an alternator but we found excessive play in the water pump while we were in there. Once removed, it was clear it was only a matter of time before it failed.

Catching things like this early is what prevents bigger repairs, overheating issues, and unexpected breakdowns.

We don’t just fix what’s obvious we look at the whole picture.
