Horsepower roars from the three dynos in the 20,000 sq. ft, “state of the art” shop, located in Nicholasville, KY. In 2022, USAC awarded Gary the “Jason Leffler Award” for his contribution to racing. He began his career in racing building sprint car chassis in Phoenix, AZ. He was soon the largest chassis builder in the United States. During this time Gary fielded race teams that ran the gamut from
an Indy car team, World of Outlaws sprint cars, USAC Silver Crown, sprints and midgets. His impressive roster of drivers includes Al Unser, Jr., Jeff Gordon, Dave Blaney, Brad Doty & Steve Kinser. His teams have won championships and Gary was inducted into the Sprint Car Hall of Fame in 2001. In 1996 Stanton teamed up with Mopar to develop a new aluminum engine and handed Chrysler the Silver Crown championship just a short year later. A winning partnership was born. Along with the building a winning tradition with Mopar, in 2009 Stanton partnered with Toyota Racing Development to re-design the TRD Midget engine. In just a few short months Stanton Racing Engines helped put the TRD engine in its first USAC national Midget victory circle. After developing engines for the big companies, Gary decided to do his own engine. In 2012 he began working on the SR-11, which became the SR-11x in 2018. The X has a billet block and 35 lbs lighter than the original SR-11. He designed EVERY part on the X, except for the front & rear seal. He has had great success with the SR-11X - in the 2022 Chili Bowl there were 94 Stanton engines. And Tanner Thorson won the Golden Driller, piloting his SR-11X powered, Andy Reinbold owned, Spike. The 2023 Chili Bowl National’s saw 103 SR-11X engines with yet another win claiming back to back Golden Drillers for the SR-11X. This time with Logan Seavey behind the wheel of the Kevin Swindell/Swindell SpeedLab/Tim Bertrand car. In 2023 Gary sold Stanton Racing Engines to long time employee Erik Milholland. Erik has worked closely with Gary on projects in the shop since he began working with Stanton Racing Engines in 2003. Erik has provided track support to teams accross all the various platforms of racing that Stanton Racing Engines has provided engines for since 2006. Erik’s passion for racing came well before arriving at Stanton Racing Engines. He began his racing career in quarter midgets in 1987 at the age of 7. Between 1987 and 2003 he competed in quarter midgets, mini sprints, TQ midgets, 360 Wing Sprint Cars, and open wheel modifieds. Erik was also an engine builder for McGunegill Engine Performance as well as a graduate of the University of Northwestern Ohio. Erik is excited to continue providing top notch engines and customer service to all of the Stanton Racing Engines teams. One thing he wants to make clear is that Gary is, and will be involved with Stanton Racing Engines for many years to come. Currently Stanton Racing Engines provides a variety of performance engines for many high profile racing series including USAC, WoO, and Traxxass TORC. Also supplying a majority of the Mopar catalog ordered crate engines. The rich racing heritage is represented by having built motors for race teams, including those owned by: Tony Stewart, Kasey Kahne, Ryan Newman., Tracy Hines, Don Garlits, Roy Johnson, and Irving Johns, Tanner Thorson, Reinbold Racing and Clauson Marshall Racing. The Stanton team is small, but mighty! Along with all their hard work at the shop, you will find Erik Milholland at all the big races. You might even catch a glimpse of Rusty!
