A common problem on these new Land Rover defenders meant we joined a long queue for a new DC to DC converter for this customer’s commercial vehicle. Thankfully this wasn’t their only form of transport as they waited patiently for the part for a few months while Land Rover worked through the back orders! Without this part the vehicle wouldn’t charge so unfortunately there was nothing to do but wait … but that did give us plenty of time to remove the 50 something screws to be able to replace the part 🤪 how many is too many? 😂

Things you don’t want to find on an MOT - but you’re glad you do! This is exactly why we MOT …

This vehicle had been into another garage for some work doing prior to its MOT with us. What we found was loose bolts around the drive shaft and the bottom of the suspension arm where they hadn’t been adequately tightened following the work. We’re glad we caught this in time before it caused any harm to any passengers, and though it’s never ideal it was left like that in the first place, the MOT demonstrated its value by bringing us the opportunity to find and fix, before accident or injury was caused!

Do you need to book your MOT? Give us a call now? ☎️

Just investigating a wiring fault on this Porsche … it had an engine light on, and like any sensible customer - they promptly brought it in to check the cause! Sometimes, and hopefully warning lights can mean something relatively minor … but unchecked they can cause expensive problems, or worse!

We’re just a phone call away …

The way we see it, by the time you need it, it’s already too late for the reminder! And though we hope there’s still many more milder days to come this autumn, we’ve already seen some mild morning frosts in certain parts of the county.

What we would recommend:
❄️ Ice scraper + de-icer
🕶️ Sunglasses - trust us, we haven’t lost it!
🧣Warm clothing, shoes and non-perishable snacks
⚡️Jump leads or portable jump starter if you have one!
🔦 Torch, and power bank
🪏Foldable shovel or traction aids if you live in an area where deep snow is common!

Don’t get caught out!

This isn’t just any alternator … it’s a starter generator alternator. Sounds a little fancy, eh 👀

Not found on every vehicle, this type can be found only on mild hybrid vehicles of 48 volts. When you also have stop/start this alternator actually starts the engine, rather than the starter motor.

It’s a special part - but it wants to be, as this part alone was £1400! For an Audi A8L.

➡️ Scoll to see the melted burnt out part that caused the fault, and then what it should look like!

If you didn’t know, we are qualified to work on all types of hybrid and electric engines … ⚡️So get booked in!

This Mercedes G-Wagon came in with a wheel wobble (wobbling at speed) and it wasn’t the balance of the wheels … turns out it was the hub bearings. It’s a little different from some vehicles, it’s more similar to a Land Rover system in the sense it a ‘tractor joint’. Hub bearings replaced = no more wobble! ✅

Have you got a wobble, or a worry about the drive of your vehicle? Best getting it checked out …

Let’s test your knowledge again - what does this dashboard warning light mean? Bonus points if you know what action to take when you see it … 👀

Clue: the answer isn’t just carry on driving!!! 😅

The alternator on this fiat punto wasn’t charging … no prizes for why! Simple diagnosis … simple fix! It’s not always possible to “spot” a problem unlike like this crack in their alternator casing, but often we don’t need a visual clue to the problem. Our decades of experience and knowledge, as well as access to specialist databases mean diagnostic time is kept to a minimum!

Another reason why our customers keep coming back to Rossmoor Garage!
