We started off the day at Trackrod Lookout Stages Rally a bit rusty, getting used to the new brakes and sticky tyres. We finished the first stage 41st overall, a bit disappointed with the time but I knew we could go much faster. Had a quick check over the car and out for stage 2, going round 26 seconds quicker and gaining confidence.
Stage 3 we had a small half spin, but stage 4 we were 24 seconds quicker and climbing the overall positions back up. We started to get an issue with the gearbox/gear mechanism as it was getting hard to find gears, but we ploughed on. At the lunch break we were 31st overall.
Stages 5, 6 and 7 after lunch, and a set of longer stages at 8.5 miles instead of ~5 miles before lunch. With the car checked over and tyre pressures set we headed out for stage 5. We put in a set of good times for stage 5 and 6 climbing to 25th overall and 6th in class.
The final stage, I was looking forward for this one, a bit more gravel and loose stuff. We were going well until after the last split, we broke the right wishbone and limped home to finish. Dropping about a minute and a half, coming in at 27th overall and 7th in class. A shame to finish the day this way as we were looking at 22nd overall and 5th in class.
But that’s rallying. I’m glad we managed to finish, and a few repairs and upgrades needed for the next one.
Thanks to Richard DeCosemo for co-driving and Luke Finch, Liam Grant and Nige Keen for servicing.
