“There’s no rust on this van,” said the previous owner… 👀🤣

This Mercedes Vito came in for its MOT, and the underside told a very different story! 🫣

Luckily for the current owner, we also carry out welding in house here at Southcoast Automotive Services, so we can tackle the repairs and get it back for its retest much quicker. 🔧

Vauxhall Corsa with clutch issues 🔧

This customer broke down over the weekend when her Corsa would no longer select a gear. Roadside recovery bled the clutch system, followed her home and advised her to get it checked by a garage.

We inspected it this morning and found the clutch pedal wasn’t returning fully, leaving her with only half a pedal.

Having worked on plenty of these Corsas over the years, we’ve seen the clutch pedal return spring—or the mounting point it clips onto—fail before. 👀

A camera above the pedal confirmed the spring was no longer attached, explaining why the pedal wasn’t returning properly.

A small part causing a big headache! 🔧

Screen washers stopped working? This Hyundai i30 shows why! 💦🚗

The washer pump’s filter gauze was full of sludge, blocking the flow of washer fluid.

Using plain water can allow algae and sludge to build up in the bottle, eventually clogging the gauze and leaving you with no spray when you need it most! 👎🏻

A little reminder to use proper screenwash at the correct dilution—a small thing that can save a lot of hassle. 💪🏻

This Vauxhall Vivaro came in for a coolant leak, but we soon found a few other jobs needing attention! 🔧

✅ Both lower ball joints
✅ CV boot clip
✅ Track rod end

The coolant leak itself? Just a clip — a minor fix compared with the rest of the work! 💪🏻

A good example of why it’s worth checking the vehicle over, even when it’s booked in for something small.

Quoted over £2,000… sorted for less than a quarter of that! 💪🏻

This Honda CR-V came to us with a DPF issue after the customer received a main dealer quote of over £2,000.

We diagnosed the fault, removed and cleaned the DPF, refitted it and carried out a test drive—all for less than a quarter of that quote. ✅

For years, we’ve invested in the training and equipment to diagnose DPF faults properly and carry out cleaning in-house. This isn’t new territory for us—we’ve been specialising in DPFs for years.

A blocked DPF needs investigating to establish why it’s blocked in the first place. That’s where our experience counts. 🔍

“You need a new engine…” 😳

This Ford Ranger came to us running rough when cold, after the customer had been told by another garage that it needed an engine.

After speaking with the customer and investigating, we found the EGR had been deleted from the software and poorly blanked off, leaving a leak. 🤦🏻‍♂️

We recommended returning it to stock software so we could see the full picture—and sure enough, fault codes for all five glow plugs appeared. These had been suppressed in the modified software, hiding faults that explained the poor cold running.

We also found the EGR valve stuck open, so replaced the EGR and cooler to put the system back as it should be.

It’s now back with the customer, with no replacement engine needed! 💪🏻

Mitsubishi L200 in this week with DPF issues 🔧

Our checks found the engine oil level was too high following work elsewhere. Before assuming it had simply been overfilled, we checked the regeneration history and frequency for signs that fuel dilution could be causing the oil level to rise.

With those checks looking good, we drained around a litre of excess oil to bring it to the correct level, carried out the required reset and the truck regenerated as it should ✅

Another example of why proper checks matter before jumping straight into a DPF clean or replacement.

One very lucky Citroën C5 owner! 🍀🔧

This one belongs to a customer’s daughter. After breaking down, the roadside assistance company suspected a snapped cambelt and recovered it to her local garage. They later confirmed the diagnosis but couldn’t take on the repair, so our customer gave us a call and arranged recovery to us.

We started by putting a camera down the bores to check for signs of contact between the pistons and valves. With no obvious marks visible, we decided to investigate further.

Once stripped down, we found the belt hadn’t actually snapped — it had lost multiple teeth around the crank pulley, with belt debris collected in the oil strainer. 😬

We thoroughly cleaned everything out, cleared the strainer and fitted a new belt kit along with the necessary replacement parts.

Thankfully, this customer got very lucky. All back together, running well and back on the road! 🙌

A bit more maintenance on the workshop today—finishing the wall, hanging the TV and wiring up all the diagnostic tools. It’s all coming together nicely! 👌
