👉Want to save fuel and keep your engine running smoothly?👈

🚕Not all engine oils are the same. The right oil can actually help you use less fuel. Fully synthetic, high-lubricity oils are designed to flow more easily, reducing friction in your engine. That means smoother running, better efficiency – and up to 5% fuel savings.

They might cost a little more than standard oils, but they can save you money in the long run (and they’re kinder to the environment too 🌍).

If you’re not sure which oil is best for your car, pop into Fairwater Garage – we’ll check the manufacturer’s recommendation and make sure your engine gets exactly what it needs.

🚗 Why Your Wiper Blades Really Matter!

It’s easy to forget about your windscreen wipers - until you really need them! 🌧️
But did you know that good visibility (and your safety) depends on their quality?

Your wipers have a tough job: over their lifetime, they can complete around 750,000 wipes — that’s the equivalent of clearing 80 football pitches worth of glass!

They also face all sorts of harsh conditions:
❄️ Freezing cold to blazing summer heat (from -30°C up to 80°C!)
🐞 Dirt, insects, ice, and road grime
🧪 Exposure to sunlight and chemicals

If your wipers are squeaking, streaking, or skipping, it’s time for a replacement. Pop into Fairwater Garage and we’ll get your visibility crystal clear again. 👀✨

👉Ever Wondered Why People Drive with Lights On During the Day?👈

💡Answer is simple!

Even in daylight, headlights make your car far more visible – especially in poor weather like fog, snow, or rain.

Daytime running lights are now mandatory in many European countries, and studies show they help reduce accidents.

Driving with dipped headlights can slightly increase wear on your bulbs, but with Bosch’s **high-performance bulbs** – such as the **Plus 90** for extra brightness or the **Longlife Daytime** for durability – you can stay visible and safe without worry.

🚗 See and be seen – drive bright, drive safe with Fairwater Garage - Bosch Car Service.

Keeping your car clean is not just about aesthetics; it is also crucial for safety and passing your MOT. While an untidy car is unlikely to cause a fail, excessive dirt or clutter can become a significant safety hazard. Inside the car, having a lot of rubbish, especially around the driver's seat, can be dangerous if items roll under the pedals and interfere with their operation. Externally, heavy dirt and grime can obscure critical components like headlights and number plates, potentially leading to an MOT fail. According to the RAC, if your car is excessively dirty, the examiner might even refuse to conduct the MOT. To avoid any issues, it's wise to thoroughly clean your car both inside and out before taking it for its test. This simple step ensures that your vehicle is safe and meets all necessary standards.

When taking your car for its MOT, one of the primary checks involves the condition and visibility of your number plates. According to the DVSA, number plates must not be obscured, excessively damaged, deteriorated, or delaminated. They should also lack any background overprinting and avoid any features or fixings that alter the appearance or legibility of the letters. For vehicles registered on or after 1 September 2001, number plates must not have a honeycomb or similar effect background. Any of these issues can be classified as a major defect and could result in an MOT failure. Additionally, number plates must be securely attached to the car with clear and legible characters. The British Number Plate Manufacturers Association advises that MOT assessors should also inspect the position of fixing screws and bolts, as well as any signs of delamination on the number plate. Ensuring these standards are met can help prevent an MOT failure and keep your vehicle roadworthy.

Most drivers understand that having functional wipers is crucial for passing an MOT, but it's equally important not to overlook the wiper fluid. According to guidance from the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA), the washer system must supply enough fluid for the wipers to clear the windscreen effectively. If your car is assessed and found with insufficient washer fluid, it can lead to an MOT failure. This requirement is in place because a dirty windscreen can severely impair your visibility and compromise road safety. While some garages might offer to top up the washer fluid for you, this is not always guaranteed. Therefore, it's essential to regularly check and maintain your windscreen washer fluid levels, particularly before heading to an MOT assessment. Ensuring your washer fluid is adequately filled is a simple yet crucial step in keeping your vehicle roadworthy and passing the inspection.

Ensuring your vehicle is ready for its MOT test involves more than just checking the basics like lights and tires. The Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) allows MOT assessors to remove items such as sat navs and air fresheners from the windscreen during the test, but they must inform the driver if they do so. If such items obstruct the driver's view and cannot be easily removed, this may result in a test failure.

To avoid this, it's wise to keep your windscreen and dashboard as clear as possible. If you rely on a sat nav or phone holder for navigation, consider using one that attaches to the air vents instead of the windscreen, thereby minimizing potential obstructions and helping ensure a smoother MOT process.

While it might not be widely known, headlights that are functioning but misaligned can indeed lead to a MOT failure. Properly aligned headlights are crucial for safe driving, as they ensure that the road ahead is adequately illuminated without blinding oncoming traffic. Misaligned headlights, even if they are operational, can compromise visibility and safety, creating potential hazards for both the driver and others on the road.
