Unfortunately you've failed your driving test but you are a good driver 👇

This is feedback that one of my learners got recently as she failed her first attempt at the driving test. As I've said before, I'm going to post the good and shout about those who pass, but part of this industry you will also get fails and I'm going to speak about them also.

How did my learner fail? Exiting a roundabout she was focused on checking her mirrors and unintentionally drifted to the kerb and mounted it. Only 3 driving faults otherwise and some compliments from the examiner on the drive which is not very often you hear the examiner praising you when you've failed. Correct decision as it was dangerous.

What can be learnt from this : As important as checking your mirrors are, over using them or starring at them can effect your steering causing you to unintentionally drift which can be dangerous.

My learner has re-booked a test for the next available slot and will look for cancellations to get back in sooner.

That's 12 passed and 3 failed in the year.

Part 4 | The worst roundabouts in Sunderland

Today we have Hastings Hill spiral roundabout. The purpose being the markings tell you what lane you need to follow to take your exit.

Many drivers not understanding the concept of following road markings and lane discipline. I'll put a video in the comments with an example how to choose your lane and spiral correctly.

Part 3 | The worst roundabouts in Sunderland

Church bank mini roundabout next to Southwick Popo station. On a bank, visibility is low and drivers tend to not approsch slow enough to give way corrrectly.

You then get the mexican stand-off if cars approach at the same time from each direction. A roundabout I love taking learners to as it can be a challenge with the low visibility, hill start (going up the bank) and how busy it can get.

Part 2 | The worst roundabouts in Sunderland

The Broadway roundabout. Do I need to say more? 😅

Quite a fast paced one if you get there when its busy. Pick a gap and get into it quick. Probably one of the busiest roundabouts in Sunderland at peak times, but also quite small 🤷‍♂️

There were plans to turn it into a traffic light controlled roundabout but the council had a traffic simulator ran and it appeared to make traffic worse.

When approaching this give way the visibility to the left, who have priority, is restricted.

This means you need to slow down, take your time, and look to make sure there are no cars coming before you commit.

Just basic defensive driving. If you can't see, don't go until you can see. The amount of times I drive down here and a car just flies round the corner is insane 🤔

When coming from the other way, its always best to ease on the side of caution also. Just expect someone to not be able to see you or be approaching too quick to react and give way to you.

Part 1 | The worst roundabouts in Sunderland

First up we have Priestman Roundabout. This could be a contender for THE worst roundabout in Sunderland.

A mixture of drivers choosing the incorrect lane and cutting across other drivers with 0 awareness, combined with some poor road markings it's a recipe for disaster.

You really need to drive defensively on this roundabout and expect others to cut across you or use the wrong lane.

The amount of traffic lights also confuses drivers as well as often drivers look at the incorrect lights and end up proceeding when their light was actually red 🚦

Often when on the roads everyday - all day, you tend to see alot of things 🤔

People racing, speeding, road rage, dangerous overtakes, drivers running red lights, pedestrians stepping out infront of you, dogs running about on the road, bins flying about. You get the point.

But I've not seen a mattress in a convertable before 😅🤣

My year so far with cars 😅

It started off with the trusty Fiesta, great little car but someone decided to crash into the back of me on a lesson and write it off.

Now enter the Blue Clio hire car, I had this for nearly 4 weeks. Great little cars, bit too fancy for what I want to do driving lessons in. Decent car though.

Now the Corsa, I've had this 4 months. I quite like the Corsa, good car to teach in. Not so fun with repairs. The clutch, master cylinder, water pump and now a gearbox has been replaced on it since having it. But it is working again now 😅

I do however have another car, less miles on so hopefully this one lasts. It's pretty much identical to a car I've already had, apart from its black 🤔 If this one doesn't last I'm quitting 🤣🤣
