Before & after on a couple of reupholstery jobs for Jenkins Marine ⚓

The first was the galley seating, which had been held together with duct tape after years of hard use and was definitely showing its age.

The second was the captain's chair, which had reached the point where it was ready for a new lease of life.

Whilst upholstery isn't something we specialise in, we do occasionally take on projects like this when they're the right fit. In both cases, the existing foam and bases were retained, with new covers made to give them a fresh look and many more years of service.

There's something satisfying about restoring well-used items and keeping them in use rather than replacing them entirely. ♻️⚓

⛵✂️ Today in the workshop...

A new overall RIB cover for this 5m boat, designed to keep those bright red tubes out of the sun while being much quicker and easier to remove when it's time to get out on the water.

No complicated fitting, no wrestling with covers on the slipway — just simple protection when she's ashore and a quick getaway when the weather's good.

Apprentice Molly was on quality control duties today and seems to think we're doing an acceptable job so far 👧🏼🧵

If your boat cover is tired, torn, or you've never had one made, get in touch. A good cover saves a lot of cleaning, fading and headaches later on. ⛵☀️

Another one out the door 👌

An on-the-water cover for this 4.6m Storm RIB, owned by a keen fisherman who wanted something practical, tidy and quick to use.

Made in grey acrylic canvas to match the tubes, with tube clips around the sides and a couple of buckles at the stern to stop the cover riding forward when the wind gets up.

Measured, made, fitted and back out on the water within 6 hours ⛵

If your boat cover is looking tired, or you're after something bespoke, drop us a message. 🪡⚓️

⛵ Good luck to everybody competing in the 2026 International Paints Poole Regatta this weekend!

Poole Harbour is about to get busy… and with any luck, we might even see some sunshine for once 😅

Mike & Ash will be out racing Rapscallion — the £1 R19 winter project that very quickly escalated into a full refit, several hundred hours of work, plenty of head scratching… and a boat we’re now slightly emotionally attached to.

The Cover & Sail Repair Shop, alongside Dorset Boat Recycling Services, have proudly sponsored parts of her overhaul this winter — including new covers, sail repairs, stitching work and various bits of TLC to get her back out doing what she should be doing… racing, not rotting in a boatyard ⚓

From seized fittings and sanding dust… to back on the start line where she belongs.

If you’d like to follow Rapscallion’s adventures this weekend, head over and follow the Dorset Boat Hire page ⛵

Fair winds to everybody racing this weekend — especially the Poole Yacht Club fleets getting stuck in 🍻

Bit of a Drascombe takeover in the workshop lately 😅⛵

We’ve had a bunch of Drascombe covers ordered through the website recently 🥳

Always nice seeing these boats still being properly used and looked after instead of sat slowly turning green in a boatyard somewhere…

All of our covers are made to order here in the workshop, with options for breathable acrylic or heavy-duty PVC depending on how and where your boat lives.

⚓ Cockpit covers
⚓ Full covers
⚓ Storage covers
⚓ Made to fit properly
⚓ Repairable when they eventually need it

No mass-produced “that’ll do” covers here 👀

Thanks to everybody keeping small marine businesses busy — we genuinely appreciate every order.

Wasp trampoline repairs? We fix them.

This one came in looking a little worse for wear after a rough sail — but fear not, it’s exactly the sort of job we can help with.

Rips, stitching failures, tired seams and worn panels can often be repaired rather than replaced, helping keep boats on the water and gear out of landfill 🪡

Drop us a message if your wasp dinghy has had a bad day 🤷🏼‍♀️

Recycled Tote bags For sale ⛵

These recycled sailcloth tote bags are made right here in Poole from retired sails that would otherwise have ended up in landfill ♻️

This particular batch has been made from the old mainsail of Shebeen — a well-known local boat from Poole Harbour. After years of use, parts of the sail had started to delaminate in isolated areas, meaning it was no longer suitable for sailing use.

Rather than throwing the material away, we’ve given it a second life.

Each bag is individually handmade, meaning no two are ever quite the same. The sailcloth still carries the character, marks and history of its previous life on the water — turning an old sail into something practical, durable and properly unique.

Perfect for:
• Shopping trips
• Beach gear
• Boat bits
• Everyday use
• Carrying far more than you probably intended 👀

Despite being lightweight, sailcloth is surprisingly strong, making these tote bags far tougher than your average supermarket bag.

By buying one, you’re helping reduce marine waste and supporting our wider mission with our sister company at Dorset Boat Recycling Services keeping usable boating materials out of landfill wherever possible.

£22 (or make us an offer!)

They can be purchased on our website: https://thecoverandsailrepairshop.co.uk/product/recycled-sail-tote-bag

or eBay account:

Handmade in Poole, Dorset ⚓️

Today’s little job: turning an old wetsuit into a funky table cover ♻️

A bit different, a bit daft, and exactly the sort of recycling project I like 😎 Keeping useful material out of the bin — one weird little idea at a time 💚
