We currently have this V6 powertrain on the engine stand following a cam chain failure on bank one. While some garages might just swap out the cam chain and the tensioner and hope for the best, we prefer to be thorough.

Let’s talk DPF filters on modern Jaguar, Land Rover, and Range Rover diesel vehicles. 🚗💨

If you drive a modern JLR diesel model, your exhaust system is fitted with a Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF). In simple terms, its job is to trap particulate matter and soot produced during the engine’s combustion process before it can escape into the atmosphere.

At our Yaxley workshop, the two most common DPF issues we see are:

🚫 A Blocked Filter: The DPF becomes completely full of soot. This usually happens when the car is only used for short drive cycles and never gets hot enough to trigger an automatic DPF regeneration.

⚠️ A Cracked Filter: An unresolved air leak can cause incomplete combustion, producing excessive soot. Over time, the intense thermal expansion from repeated short trips can cause the physical filter to crack, letting soot pass right through.
How do you combat this?

The easiest way to care for your diesel engine is to take it on an extended journey. Giving your vehicle a regular motorway run cruising steadily between 50mph and 70mph for about 40 minutes—allows the exhaust system to reach the high temperatures required to trigger a full active DPF regeneration, completely clearing out the filter.

Is your Jaguar I-Pace refusing to charge? Here is how our expert EV technicians track down the problem!⚡🚙

When this Jaguar I-Pace arrived at our Yaxley workshop with a complete charging failure, we hooked it straight up to TOPIx Cloud the official Jaguar Land Rover diagnostic software.

The system quickly flagged fault code P0D94, which points directly to an issue with the charge cable locking mechanism. As demonstrated in the video, there is a small locking pin inside the charge flap that physically drops to secure the high voltage cable in place. If the vehicle’s computer detects that this locking pin hasn’t engaged, strict safety protocols kick in, and the car simply will not allow the battery to charge.

The final diagnosis? The vehicle requires a replacement charge cable lock to safely get back on the road.
