🚗 Thinking of learning to drive? Don’t assume manual lessons are becoming a thing of the past.

The government is considering reducing its electric vehicle sales targets, with the current requirement for 80% of new cars sold by 2030 to be electric now under review.

But here’s the key point for learners 👇

📊 In 2025, around 7.8 million used cars were sold in the UK, compared with just 2 million new cars. The vast majority of those used vehicles are petrol or diesel, and many are manual.

That means manual cars are likely to remain a familiar sight on UK roads for years to come.

A manual licence also gives you the flexibility to drive both manual and automatic vehicles, which is why many learners still choose this route.

⚠️ Important update from the DVSA ⚠️

The DVSA is taking stronger action against driving test booking scams and misuse of the booking system.

Since 12 May 2026, only learner drivers can book, change or cancel their driving tests. To enforce this, the DVSA has already:

✅ Cancelled 450 tests that were booked outside the rules
✅ Suspended online booking access for over 4,000 licence holders
✅ Had 17 unofficial test-booking apps removed from Apple and Google platforms

To protect yourself:

❌ Don't use unofficial apps or websites
❌ Don't buy test slots through social media
✅ Only use GOV.UK to book or manage your driving test

Ignoring this advice could result in your test being cancelled, your online booking access being suspended, and potentially losing money to scammers.

Please share with any learner drivers who may not be aware.

CHANGES TO THE DRIVING TEST (from 09/06/2026) 🚗
From Tuesday, 9th June 2026, learner drivers will only be able to move their driving test to nearby test centres.
If you book a new test from this date, you will only be able to move your test to:
• any of the 3 centres nearest to where your test is booked
• the test centre you first booked at on that current booking
If you have an existing booking, the new rule will apply to where your test is booked at, on 9th June – not where you first booked. 🚗

A huge well done to James on passing his driving test in Peterborough at the first attempt with just 1 driving fault! 🚗✅🥳

From the moment the test started, James showed calm, confident driving and dealt with everything the examiner asked of him. His excellent standard of driving was recognised during the test, making this a thoroughly deserved result. 👏🏆

🚶‍♀️ Big news for drivers in England - pavement parking rules are changing!

The English Devolution and Community Empowerment Act received Royal Assent on 29 April 2026, giving local councils stronger powers to tackle dangerous pavement parking and issue fines to drivers who ignore restrictions.

Until now, enforcement has often been patchy and complicated. Under the new rules, councils will be able to introduce and enforce pavement parking restrictions much more easily - and Peterborough could eventually be one of them.

⚠️ Why does it matter?

Pavement parking can make life difficult - and sometimes unsafe - for wheelchair users, people with pushchairs, and those with visual impairments. It’s also something the Highway Code already warns drivers about.

This is exactly the kind of awareness I try to build with my learners - not just passing the test, but understanding how our driving and parking affects other people around us.

📢 Important update for my pupils - driving test bookings 🚗

The DVSA is continuing its crackdown on bots, apps and businesses unfairly booking driving tests. Since the new rules came into force on 12 May 2026:

❌ 1,178 driving licence numbers have been suspended from online booking due to suspicious activity
❌ Several third-party apps have been reported to Apple and Google
❌ Social media accounts advertising illegal test booking services are being removed
❌ 7 business accounts have already been suspended for breaking the rules

Please remember:

✅ Only book, change or cancel your driving test through GOV.UK
✅ Only pay the official DVSA fees (£62 weekday tests / £75 evenings, weekends & bank holidays)
✅ Avoid apps, websites or social media pages promising “earlier test dates”

If you want an earlier test, the ONLY legitimate ways are through the official GOV.UK change booking service or by swapping with another learner directly through DVSA. Let’s keep the system fair for everyone 👍

📢 Important update for learner drivers!

From Tuesday 12 May 2026, you’ll need to book your own driving test on GOV.UK - driving instructors (such as myself) will no longer be allowed to book tests for pupils.

Before booking your test, the DVSA says you should speak to your driving instructor to:

✅ Make sure you’re ready for test standard

✅ Get their ADI reference number so you can add it to your booking

When booking your test:

📍 Only book a test centre you actually plan to use - you’ll only be able to move your test to nearby centres

📅 Choose a realistic date - you’ll only be allowed to make 2 changes to your booking

👤 You’ll also need to confirm that you are the learner taking the test and agree to the new terms and conditions

⚠️ The DVSA has confirmed that from 12 May 2026, it will be against the law to book a driving test for someone else.

✅ Already have a test booked? Don’t worry - existing bookings will still go ahead as planned.

Another fantastic lesson today 🚗👏

A huge well done to my pupil Ella on just her second lesson! Today was her first time reversing back around a curb, and she absolutely smashed it 💪

She showed great control, patience, and awareness throughout - finishing the manoeuvre to a really high standard. It’s brilliant to see such strong progress so early on, especially when it comes to reversing, which many learners find challenging at first.

Really pleased with what she accomplished today - this is exactly the kind of progress that builds confidence for the road ahead 👌
