Today Melissa is raising money by doing a wingwalk to help raise funds for the transport to take children with severe learning difficulties to a special circus show

I’m about to do something completely out of my comfort zone… and I need your help 💙✈️
As many of you know, I am the Headteacher at Red Gates School, a school for children with severe learning difficulties. For our families, attending community events can be incredibly challenging.
Last month, I visited a circus that is owned by a family friend, and I saw a young chap with similar needs to our children absolutely full of joy, laughing, expressing himself freely, and completely immersed in the magic of it all. But I also saw the disapproving looks from others… and I saw his mum’s face. It was clear this wasn’t a one-off. My heart broke for her.
In that moment, I knew how important it is for our children and families to have spaces where they feel safe, accepted, and celebrated. Something we strive to create at Red Gates.
So, I reached out to Matthew who owns the circus—and something amazing has happened.
Thanks to the incredible generosity of Circus Fantasia, they have agreed to put on a special show just for Red Gates School. A show designed for our children, where they can be themselves, enjoy every second, and experience the magic of the circus without judgement. Our goal is to take all 160 of our wonderful pupils.
To make this happen, I’m taking on a HUGE personal challenge… a wing walk! Standing on top of a flying plane to raise the funds needed to cover the experience and transport for our children.
I won’t lie, I am absolutely terrified. But this is nothing compared to the barriers our families face every single day.
