A quick reminder about how we handle diagnostics and repairs here at AMG.

If you’ve had your vehicle diagnosed elsewhere, that’s absolutely fine — we’re happy to carry out the work you’ve booked in for.
But we will only complete the specific job authorised. We won’t reconfirm or re‑diagnose the fault for free before starting, because any verification or investigation becomes a chargeable diagnostic appointment. Proper diagnostics take time, equipment and a trained technician.

Once that booked work is completed, if the vehicle then shows an underlying issue, that doesn’t mean anything has gone wrong with the repair. It simply means there was another fault present that wasn’t part of the original job. Modern cars often have multiple issues at once, and one fault can easily mask another until the first is resolved.

This is also why home OBD readers and AI tools like ChatGPT can’t diagnose your car.
A code reader gives you a starting point, not an answer. It can’t test components, run live data, or identify mechanical issues underneath. And AI can only work from whatever symptoms you typed in — it has no access to the vehicle itself. That’s why a proper technician‑led diagnostic process is essential.

🚗 Collection & Delivery – Important Update
We offer vehicle collection which happens between 8am–10am.
This service is chargeable, as it requires two members of staff and takes a significant amount of time out of the morning schedule.

Once collected, your vehicle is placed straight into the day’s diary for the day’s work.

❗ MOT Dangerous Failures
If your vehicle fails its MOT on dangerous defects and you choose not to proceed with the repairs, we will not be able to deliver the vehicle back to you.

This is because:
A dangerous MOT failure is legally unroadworthy
We cannot drive or transport a vehicle that has been deemed unsafe
Doing so would breach DVSA regulations and invalidate insurance
Recovery of a dangerous vehicle must be arranged by the owner
Your vehicle will remain on-site until you arrange recovery.

📅 All Other Vehicles
All other vehicles will be returned by 5pm the same working day, unless otherwise advised.

Even if we look active on Facebook, we’re usually juggling 100+ phone calls a day, MOTs, diagnostics, parts runs and a full workshop.
Because of that, the landline is always the fastest and most reliable way to reach us.

A polite note as well:
Please try and avoid messaging Graham (or Mel) directly.
We’re hands‑on all day, and phones often don’t get checked until 6pm or later which is often too late. That’s exactly why we have a landline and a reception team.

We’re not ignoring anyone — we’re just busy keeping the day moving and getting cars back on the road.

🔧 About the Role
You’ll be responsible for:
• Diagnosing faults
• Carrying out repairs and routine maintenance
• Handling larger jobs (clutches, wetbelts, cambelts etc.)
• Working on a wide range of vehicles
• Using hand and power tools confidently
• Maintaining high standards in a busy workshop

This is a hands‑on role for someone who can work efficiently, safely and independently.

✅ Requirements (Must Have)
• 2+ years workshop experience
• Own hand tools
• Full UK driving licence
• NVQ Level 3 or equivalent

Morning all. A quick start‑of‑week reminder:

We’re already running at a full schedule, so if you need work doing, please plan ahead.
If we’ve quoted for a job, don’t leave it until your MOT is due and then expect a same‑day turnaround — parts, workload and ramp time all need to be managed properly.

We’re here to help, advise, and get your car sorted, but we can only work with the time and information we’re given.

Thank you to everyone who books in promptly, communicates clearly, and treats the team with respect — it makes the week run far smoother.

When we hear the word “intermittent”…

Intermittent faults are some of the most challenging to diagnose. We can only work with what the vehicle shows us on diagnostics, or what we can physically experience while it’s here.

Sometimes that means:

waiting for the fault to reappear

testing it hot, cold, bonnet open, bonnet closed

repeating checks multiple times

monitoring live data for changes

And even after all of that, sometimes the fault still won’t present itself.

There are also issues we simply cannot recreate in a workshop — for example, faults that only occur at 80mph, under load, or going uphill. If the conditions can’t be safely replicated, the fault may remain hidden until it becomes more consistent.

Because of this, diagnostics is still chargeable, even if we cannot get the vehicle to fault during the appointment — the time, equipment, and technician expertise have still been used.

What we do offer is this:
If the fault happens again, bring it straight back to us, and we will re‑scan or re‑check it free of charge.
That way, we can capture the fault when it’s actually present and give you an accurate answer without unnecessary costs.

When your vehicle is in the workshop, we unplug any dash cams before work begins.
This isn’t unusual — it’s standard practice across the industry.

It’s simply to protect:
• Customer privacy
• Staff privacy
• General workshop security

Vehicles are moved around, staff walk past, and normal day‑to‑day conversations happen, so cameras can’t be left recording during that time.

A small but important part of keeping things professional and respectful.
