Changes to driving test booking happening today. โš ๏ธ

From today (9 June), if you move your driving test, you can only move it to one of the 3 nearest test centres to where it's currently booked.

This is the remaining change we committed to make by the end of Spring 2026:

๐Ÿ“… 31 March โ€” test changes limited to 2 per booking

๐Ÿ”’ 12 May โ€” only learners can book, change or cancel their own test

๐Ÿ“ 9 June โ€” test moves limited to 3 nearest centres

Since 12 May, we've suspended 3605 accounts for breaking the rules and reported apps to app stores for removal. We're not stopping there.

๐ŸšจFrom 9 June, learner drivers will only be able to move their driving test to nearby test centres.

If you book a new test from this date, you will only be able to move your test to:

โœ… any of the 3 centres nearest to where your test is booked

โœ… the test centre you first booked at on that current booking

If you have an existing booking, the new rule will apply to where your test is booked at on 9 June โ€“ not where you first booked.

Only you can book or manage your car driving test. This means your driving instructor wonโ€™t be allowed to book it for you.

New changes to how you book and manage your practical driving test are coming into effect. The DVSA is introducing these measures to make the system fairer for everyone and to stop the reselling of test slots by third parties.

โ€‹If you are currently learning to drive, please take note of these three key dates:
โœจ31-Mar-26, The number of times you can change a test booking will be reduced from six down to two.
โœจ12-May-26, It will be a criminal offence for anyone other than the learner to book or manage a test. This includes driving instructors and third-party apps (Testi, TestShift, etc.).
โœจ09-Jun-26, You will only be able to move your test to the three closest alternative centres. If you are booked in East Kilbride, you can only switch to another East Kilbride date or move your test to Hamilton, Baillieston, or Airdrie.

A change is defined as altering the date, the time, or the test centre. It also includes swapping your slot with another learner.

Only book your test when you are truly ready to pass, whilst ensuring you choose a location you genuinely intend to use. If you need to cancel, remember to give at least 10 full working days' notice to receive a full refund.

From 12 May, only you as the learner driver will be able to book and manage your car driving test.

This means your driving instructor wonโ€™t be allowed to do this for you.

For new drivers, this month could be the first time you make a long trip. Make sure youโ€™re prepared by:

- Making sure your car is roadworthy โ€“ check your fuel, tyres and lights before you head off
- Planning your route and know which junctions you'll use
- Making time for breaks โ€“ at least 15 minutes every 2 hours
- Checking the forecast for any weather warnings
- Reading Highway Code rules 253-274 โ€“ these have everything you need on joining motorways, overtaking and staying at a steady speed
