♿️ Driving Mobility is the main organization responsible for assessing your needs and recommending specific vehicle adaptations if you are returning to driving after an accident or a medical change. They operate a national network of independent driving assessment centres across the UK.

The Assessment and Fitting Process

The pathway to getting back on the road involves specialized clinical professionals, government agencies, and adaptation installers:

ℹ️Who Is Involved What They Do
Occupational Therapists (OTs) & Approved Driving Instructors (ADIs) Conduct the physical, cognitive, and on-road assessments at a Driving Mobility Centre. They evaluate your strength, reaction times, and range of movement to determine exactly which adaptation will keep you safe.
DVLA (Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency) Makes the legal decision on your fitness to drive based on the assessment report. They will issue your licence with specific restriction codes that legally mandate what modifications your car must have.
ℹ️Vehicle Adaptation Specialists Supply and professionally install the equipment (e.g., hand controls, left-foot accelerators, steering aids) to match your vehicle and your licence restrictions.

ℹ️Whilst we sell many types of adapted vehicles . A WAV dealer can’t give advice on what adaptions you need sadly this is something specially trained clinicians eg OT’s and driver assessors will deal with to satisfy the DVLA .
The DVLA is responsible for assessing medical conditions or disabilities that may affect driving .
