Talkin Adventures is an Adventure Activity Centre at Talkin Tarn Country Park near Carlisle in Cumbria. A wide range of activities are on offer including Archery, Canoeing, Kayaking, Stand Up Paddle Boarding, Raft Building, Team Building, Orienteering and Bushcraft. Boat hire is open every weekend and school holiday between Easter and October. You can book a private family or small group session i

n Archery, Kayaking or Stand Up Paddle Boarding at any time of year through our website. For other activities and groups, it is best to email us to arrange a bespoke package. Talkin Adventures work with Schools for Outdoor Learning, Youth Organisations, Charities, Holiday Clubs, Business Team Building and Hen/Stag Parties. Cumbria is a superb place to visit on a holiday and the North Pennines are Cumbria's best kept secret. Between the Lake District National Park and Hadrian's Wall, Talkin Tarn provides a fabulous day out - book some activities, explore the woodland, take a walk around the lake, and have coffee and cake - it's more accessible than the lakes, there's ample parking, public toilets and even changing rooms and showers for water users. Talkin Adventures is a division of Independent Adventure Limited.

🌿 Home-educating families of North Cumbria — this one’s for you!

Following the popularity of our activities with home-educated children and their families, we’re introducing a selection of midweek adventure sessions at Talkin Tarn Country Park.

These sessions give young people the chance to:

🏹 Enjoy exciting outdoor activities
🌳 Learn and explore in the natural environment
🤝 Meet other home-educated children
💪 Build confidence, independence and new skills

There’s no need to organise a private group or find enough families to fill a session. Simply choose the dates that work for you and book your child’s place online.

This is currently a trial, with sessions available for ages 8–12 and 11–15. We’d love to hear your feedback so we can develop a regular programme shaped around the needs of local home-educating families in 2027.

Fancy shooting some arrows at the weekend?

Our next open archery session is this coming Saturday 12th September at Talkin Tarn Country Park. The session begins at 10:30 and is ideal for beginners including adults and kids from 9 years and up.

This is an open session lasting for an hour with our instructor. Prebooking is required. Checkout the link below for more details and to reserve your places. £30pp

Private sessions are available at other times. Book online for groups of up to 8 participants or get in touch if there are more of you.
1-2 participants = £60 group price
3-6 participants = £120 group price
Additional participants = £30pp.

Boat hire and minigolf will be open each weekend throughout September, 11am-4pm subject to weather. NO PRE-BOOKING
£15 per boat/canoe/kayak per half hour

£35 per SUP per hour (includes wetsuit and buoyancy aid - bring watershoes or old trainers, swimwear for under the suit and a towel)
