This customer came in with an EML light on before setting off on a long drive to Italy 🇮🇹

We carried out a full diagnostic scan and found two faults stored, one relating to the oil pressure solenoid and another relating to the DPF.

We tackled the oil pressure solenoid first, removing the A/C compressor to gain access. Unfortunately, the solenoid was absolutely stuck solid in the block! After many hours of carefully working at it, and removing the front end to gain better access, we finally managed to get it out and the new solenoid fitted.

Once the solenoid was replaced, we carried out a DPF regeneration, which completed successfully. We then rescanned the vehicle and were pleased to see no EML light and no faults stored for the oil pressure solenoid. ✅

While we were already in there, the customer also mentioned that their A/C condenser has had a hole in it for years. With a long trip ahead and the possibility of some serious heat in Italy ☀️, they were understandably concerned about having no A/C.

So, while we had access, we ordered and fitted a brand new genuine condenser, followed by a full A/C regas getting two jobs sorted while we were already in the area.

Everything checked over, DPF regeneration completed, no EML and no oil pressure solenoid faults present. The A/C was working perfectly and the customer was ready to head off on their well earned holiday abroad! 😎🇮🇹

This customer came to us with a complaint of a juddering sensation throughout the vehicle, so we got it straight onto the ramp and carried out a full vehicle health check.

During the inspection, we found the two rear tyres were in need of replacement. As you can see from the photograph, both tyres had become noticeably misshapen and uneven, with the internal cords beginning to show through.

This type of distortion can be caused by factors such as uneven wear, incorrect tyre pressures, impact damage or deterioration of the tyre’s internal structure. As the tyre loses its correct shape, it can become uneven when rotating, which can contribute to the juddering and vibration the customer had reported.

With the cords visible, and tyres seriously misshapen the tyres were no longer suitable for continued use and were replaced immidiently.

A good example of why it’s worth getting any unusual vibrations, judders or changes in the way your vehicle drives checked rather than simply putting them down to the road surface.

Another issue found and sorted during a routine vehicle health check. 🔧

🔧 Audi SQ5 – Engine Management Light & Coolant Leak

This Audi SQ5 came into us with two issues — an engine management light and a coolant leak.

💧 Coolant Leak Diagnosis & Repair

We started by diagnosing the coolant leak, carrying out a thorough visual inspection of the cooling system. We noticed a wet area around the coolant bottle, so we moved to the top of the engine and carried out a cooling system pressure test.

We initially pressurised the system to 1 bar, where no obvious leaks were present. We then increased the pressure to 2 bar, at which point we could see a small flow of coolant coming past the coolant bottle housing bush and running down the chassis leg.

We removed the coolant bottle and carefully removed the heat shield alongside it. Once access was gained, we found a large hairline crack in the coolant bottle, showing clear signs that it had been leaking once the vehicle was up to temperature.

A new coolant bottle was ordered and fitted, resolving the coolant leak. ✅

⚙️ Engine Management Light – Intake Manifold Flap

We then moved onto the engine management fault, which had logged faults relating to the intake manifold flap being stuck open and stuck closed.

We began stripping down the intake system and found large amounts of carbon build-up around the manifold flap motor, restricting its operation.

The intake manifold was removed to allow us to thoroughly clean the carbon deposits from inside. During reassembly, new genuine seals were fitted before everything was refitted correctly.

We then stripped down the intake manifold flap itself and thoroughly cleaned the internal components. The plastic housing cover was also removed so we could inspect the internal plastic gears. Thankfully, all of the gears were fully intact with no signs of damage.

However, when activating the manifold flap, we found the actuator would judder twice before completely stopping, confirming that the flap/actuator itself had failed.

A new genuine intake manifold flap was supplied and fitted.

The fault codes were then cleared and the vehicle was fully road tested. The intake manifold flap was operating correctly, with no further engine management faults present. ✅

2014 Audi S3 (8V) – Coolant Leak Diagnosis & Repair

This Audi S3 was booked in with a coolant loss concern. Following a thorough inspection, we identified the source of the leak as the oil cooler seal.

Although access to the oil cooler on these engines is quite restricted, the necessary components were removed to allow the repair to be carried out correctly.

A genuine oil cooler and seal were fitted, the cooling system was reassembled, refilled with the correct coolant, pressure tested, and checked to ensure the leak had been completely resolved.

As always, we use genuine VAG parts to ensure the highest standard of repair and long-term reliability.

Another quality repair completed and another vehicle returned to its owner with confidence.

This customer had just treated themselves to a new car. This Volkswagen Golf was high mileage but came with what appeared to be a full main dealer service history and a fully stamped service book, so on the surface it looked like a solid buy.

Unfortunately, not long after purchasing it, the customer started experiencing intermittent low oil pressure warnings on the dashboard and booked it in with us as soon as possible.

We began by carrying out a full diagnostic scan, which pointed us towards the oil pressure sensor. Once removed, we discovered a large amount of debris on the end of the sensor. This led us to inspect the oil filter, where we found what appeared to be an oil filter that hadn’t been changed for a very long time.

The thick black sludge coating the filter is typically caused by poor servicing over an extended period. As engine oil ages, it breaks down and loses its protective properties, eventually turning into a thick, gloopy sludge full of carbon, debris and contaminants. This can restrict oil flow, block vital oil galleries, reduce lubrication and ultimately lead to serious engine damage.

Sadly, after seeing the extent of the issue, the customer decided the vehicle wasn’t financially viable to repair and made the difficult decision to cut their losses.

Volkswagen Caddy – Rear Brakes Repair

This Volkswagen Caddy came to us following its MOT with an advisory for worn rear brake pads. However, during our inspection we found the issue was more than just worn pads.

The rear brake pads had seized in the caliper carriers, causing them to wear unevenly. This can lead to symptoms such as reduced braking efficiency, uneven brake wear, excessive heat build-up, increased brake dust and brake binding/squealing.

Rather than simply replacing the pads, we removed and thoroughly cleaned both rear caliper carriers, serviced the calipers, cleaned and lubricated the slider pins, and ensured everything moved freely before fitting a new set of rear brake pads.

The result was smooth, even braking and another Volkswagen Caddy back on the road performing exactly as it should.

Volkswagen Transporter T6 – EGR Replacement

This Volkswagen Transporter T6 came to us with the engine management light (EML) illuminated due to a faulty EGR system.

The repair involved replacing the EGR cooler, along with fitting all new gaskets and refilling the cooling system with fresh coolant.
