⚓ BOATING TIPS FOR DECEMBER!

Stay Safe on the Water This Holiday Season

Summer is almost here, the boats are ready, and the water is calling! Before heading out, take a moment to brush up on these essential boating safety tips to keep you, your crew and fellow boaters safe this festive season.

1. SKIPPER’S RESPONSIBILITY
Ensure all required documents are onboard and available for inspection:
• Certificate of Fitness (COF)
• Buoyancy Certificate
• Valid Skipper’s Licence

2. CHECK THE TIDES
Always check the tides before departure and arrival. The Kromme River Mouth and canals have experienced extreme high and low tides, making navigation challenging. Plan ahead and proceed with caution.

3. FOLLOW THE RULES OF THE WATER
Keep a proper lookout, follow the applicable collision-avoidance rules and keep to the correct side when meeting other vessels. Where required, pass port to port and always give other boats plenty of room.

4. WEAR YOUR LIFEJACKET
Lifejackets must be worn when launching and beaching at the river mouth. Ensure there is a suitable lifejacket onboard for every person on your vessel.

5. PRE-LAUNCH SAFETY CHECKS
Before every launch, make sure you have checked the following:
• Plugs securely fitted
• Motors starting and running correctly
• Safety equipment checked and ready
• All required paperwork onboard
• Steering working correctly
• Sufficient fuel, plus an additional 25% reserve
• All equipment securely stowed

6. KEEP A CLEAR HEAD
Never operate a vessel under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

ENJOY YOUR HOLIDAY, RESPECT THE SEA AND STAY SAFE!
