Sparcraft Masts designs and manufactures custom and production catamaran and monohull aluminium rig packages, and furling systems.

With three decades of mast building experience, Sparcraft Masts is the sole mast manufacturer in South Africa. Design and manufacture of custom and production aluminium rig packages. This includes masts, spars, catamaran crossbeams and longerons.. Supply and fitting of Profurl and Facnor furling systems. Supply, fitting and splicing of wire rod and composite standing rigging, running rigging and wire swaging.

It’s always a pleasure to join the exceptional team at Phoenix Marine on the water.

Yesterday, Sparcraft Masts and Furlcraft joined them for the sea trial of their most recently launched X5 E-Plus sailing catamaran, built by Phoenix Marine Manufacturing for Xquisite Yachts – on one of those perfect Cape Town spring days.

On board, the rig brings together the expertise of Sparcraft Masts and Furlcraft.

The Sparcraft Masts package includes the mast, standing and running rigging, crossbeam with A-frame bow prod, together with the supply and fitment of the FACNOR electric screecher furler.

She is also fitted with a Furlcraft carbon furling boom, completing the sail-handling package.

Always rewarding to see both systems out on the water, doing exactly what they were designed to do.

It was great to join the team at Nexus Yachts/Balance Catamarans in St Francis Bay as the mast was stepped on TOKERAU II, their latest Balance 580.

Our longstanding partnership with the Nexus Yachts/Balance Catamarans team is one we value enormously, and it’s always rewarding to be there for another significant milestone in a new build.

For TOKERAU II, the Sparcraft Masts package includes the mast, boom, standing and running rigging, crossbeam and longeron with integrated anchor launch system, together with the Profurl electric genoa furler and Facnor manual spinnaker furler.

In production at Sparcraft Masts: the compression post with integrated anchor launch system, together with the corresponding crossbeam and A-frame – all engineered and manufactured as part of the structural component package for the VOYAGE 510.

It’s always rewarding to see these individual components coming together in the factory before they become part of the finished yacht.

Another great day on the water, joining the VOYAGE YACHTS | Sailing Catamarans and Ullman Sails South Africa teams for the sea trial of the third VOYAGE 510 catamaran.

Our longstanding partnership with VOYAGE Yachts continues on this latest 510, with Sparcraft Masts supplying an extensive package of custom-manufactured components: the mast with ladder-style mast steps, hayrack boom, standing and running rigging, crossbeam, compression post and fixed dinghy platform.

We also supply and fit the Admiral electric genoa furler, completing the sail-handling package on board.

Happy Heritage Day, South Africa 🇿🇦

Today, 24 September, we celebrate Heritage Day – a day that recognises the many cultures, traditions, languages and histories that make South Africa such a richly diverse country.

At Sparcraft Masts, we’re fortunate to work with a team made up of people from many different backgrounds, all bringing their own skills, experience and perspectives to what we do.

A good day to be out on the water, joining the VOYAGE Yachts team for a sea trial aboard the latest VOYAGE 510.

Our longstanding collaboration with VOYAGE Yachts continues with the 510, for which Sparcraft Masts designs and manufactures the mast and hayrack boom, together with the standing and running rigging, crossbeam and compression post.

The VOYAGE 510 is a 51 ft sailing catamaran developed for extended blue-water sailing, with performance, stability and comfortable cruising firmly in focus.

And if you look closely at the mast, you’ll also spot the ladder-style mast steps – another detail that comes into its own both on the water and when working aloft.

The end of an era — and the beginning of the next.

It has been a privilege to work alongside Balance | Luxury Performance Multihulls over the years, designing, manufacturing and stepping the rigs for this award-winning model. As the last 442 takes to the water, we’re already looking forward to the next chapter — and seeing the first Balance 464 under sail.

Built in-house, down to the details.

At Sparcraft Masts, much of the rig and component manufacturing process happens under one roof – from fabrication and machining to finishing, rigging and quality control, backed by more than three decades of experience.

Here’s a quick look at just two examples in our factory: crossbeam end fittings in production, followed by spreader brackets in our anodising booth as part of the finishing process.

It’s this control over the detail that helps us maintain the quality and consistency expected across every Sparcraft rig.

The end of an era.

Recently in our factory, the final Balance 442 rig moved through its final fit-out, finished in a beautiful glossy black and ready for launch.

It has been an absolute pleasure working alongside Balance | Luxury Performance Multihulls to manufacture 30 Balance 442 rig packages over the years. As this chapter closes, we’re equally excited to see the first Balance 464 — the model set to succeed the 442 — take to the water soon.
