“They’re not listening.”
“They’re clumsy.”
“They’re just not trying.”

It’s a reminder that there’s often more happening beneath the surface than we see. Take catching a ball, for example.

It might look like one simple action, but your child is relying on several skills at once.

At HN Kinderkinetics, we look beyond the activity itself to understand the different skills involved and where a child may need support.

Because sometimes, it’s not about trying harder. It’s about identifying which skills need more practice

Evaluation week is coming. But what are we actually looking at?

It’s not about getting everything right.

It’s about seeing where each child is in their development and where they have progressed.

A playground is basically a dozen challenges happening at once.

While climbing, a child is judging distances, adjusting their balance, planning where to put their foot, responding to other children and deciding what to do next.

This is one environment with lots of different skills working together.

That’s why Kinderkinetics is such a useful activity for children, as ‘playing’ also requires skills.

Things we’ve heard this year…

And through these comments, we’ve seen children trying something they thought they couldn’t do. Children attempting something they’ve been practising for weeks, and children who are learning to try again.

Learning is not only physical but an emotional skill too.

Not every bit of progress is measured by how high they jump or how quickly they run.

This is growth too!

Term 4. Let’s go.

The final term of the year is here and with it comes a few more weeks of running, jumping, climbing, balancing, trying, failing, trying again and, of course, having fun along the way.

It’s also a good time to look back at how far our learners have come. The skills they’ve worked on all year don’t just disappear when the session ends. They start showing up in the way they play, move and take on new challenges.

Here’s to term 4: same kids, new challenges, more progress.

Every Child Matters. 💛

At Boland School for Autism, those three words mean something. Every child is different. Every child communicates, learns, plays and experiences the world in their own way and every child deserves the opportunity to be understood, supported and given the space to grow.

We’re so proud that HN Kinderkinetics forms part of that journey.

Our sessions aren’t about every child doing the same thing, or getting every activity “right”. Sometimes it’s joining in. Sometimes it’s trying something new. Sometimes it’s finding a way to make an activity work for them. And sometimes, it’s simply having fun and being part of the group.

Those little moments matter. And that’s what makes being part of the Boland School for Autism community so special. 💛

You hear a glass falling off the table.

Before you even think about it, your hand reaches out.

That’s reaction time!
It’s the ability to notice something has happened, process it and respond quickly. For children, reaction time is constantly being developed through play.

At HN Kinderkinetics, we use games that require children to watch, listen, process information and respond as quickly as they can.

But reaction time isn’t just useful for sport. It’s there when a child:
🚲 Stops their bike when they see someone ahead.
⚽ Moves out of the way of a ball.
🛝 Adjusts their body on the playground.
🚦 Responds to instructions like “stop” or “go.”

The best part? Children don’t experience this as training their reaction time. To them, it’s just fun.
And that’s exactly how we like it!

“It’s your turn.”

Three little words that can sometimes be very difficult for a child to hear.

Learning to wait, take turns, cope with losing, ask for help, encourage a friend and try again after something doesn’t go their way are all part of developing social and emotional skills.

And these skills don’t magically appear because we tell children to “be nice.” They develop through experience.

At HN Kinderkinetics, children get opportunities to work together, follow rules, communicate, problem-solve and navigate those little wins and frustrations that naturally happen during play.

Maybe they have to wait for their turn.
Maybe their team doesn’t win.
Maybe their friend does something differently.
Maybe an activity is harder than they expected.

These moments are valuable. Because learning how to manage emotions, interact with others and keep going when things don’t go according to plan is just as important as learning how to jump, catch or balance.

And just like everything around us starts waking up and growing, September is a lovely reminder that children are constantly developing too. 🌱

This month at HN Kinderkinetics, we’re focusing on Social & Emotional Skills, Reaction Time, Cognitive Skills and Reflexes.

These aren’t skills that only matter during a Kinderkinetics session. They’re there when your child takes turns with a friend, reacts when a ball comes flying their way, works out how to solve a problem, or instinctively catches themselves when they stumble.

Over the next few weeks, we’ll unpack each one and show you what these skills can look like in everyday childhood.

Just like the Spring blossoms, development takes nurturing and time.
