This honda accord was called in for diagnosis due to an intermittent issue where the dash would light up like a christmas tree every once and awhile. The radar surprisingly still worked to a degree. After speaking directly with the owner of the vehicle and not the customer we discovered that the problem generally only seemed to happen when it rained.
After asking a few simple questions our technician immediately went to inspect the front radar as IHDS was booting up to connect and talk to the car. Before the program had even loaded our technician had discovered light scoring to the face of the radar. Once the plastic cover was removed a large crack was discovered. With absolute confidence we can say this radar was definitely taking in water and shorting out. The millimeter wave radar talks to many different modules throughout today's modern vehicles. When an issue occurs the vehicle shuts down all driver's assist systems and immediately puts all other modules on notice due to said issue. These modules are rather fragile, the fact that this one worked on occasion was pretty surprising.
A new bracket and radar were ordered. We then proceeded to calibrate the module and perfom all other required calibrations per Hondas job aid, per the scope of work performed to the vehicle by the shop. A decent test drive with multiple key cycles was performed after to ensure the vehicle was sound and safe to deliver to the customer.
This was definitely a fun one to see and diagnose. I'm super thankful for our team and the experience they bring to the table to get these issues sorted out as quickly as possible.
