As schools let out for summer and students get ready for summer break, schedules can get busy. Driver education classes fill up fast and summer is a very busy time for DMV offices, so save a trip to the DMV! Wisconsin DMV now offers online testing platform for new drivers ages 15-17.

Using parent or guardian supervision, eligible applicants can now take the Class D knowledge test online when it’s convenient for them and their family. Wisconsin DMV joins 18 other licensing jurisdictions who offer some form of online knowledge testing to qualified applicants.

⭐️No long waits in line
⭐️No waiting for testing stations to open up at the DMV
⭐️Controlled and quiet environment to take the tests
⭐️Take the test(s) around your schedule

The Class D knowledge test is a two-part exam that covers rules for the road and important road signs. The online test offers the same look, functionality and testing questions offered at the DMV service centers, including testing in English or Spanish. This testing platform does require a fee of $10 per test attempt and applicants are limited to two attempts online before having to complete the testing process in a Wisconsin DMV service center.

Upon passing and completing the test(s), a certificate of completion is emailed to the applicant. This, along with other required documents, should be taken to a Wisconsin DMV service center for testing validation and to receive their instruction permit.

Wisconsin DMV recommends all applicants schedule a service appointment to receive expedited service. Information related to appointments and required documents is provided to those who pass their exam online along with their passing certificate.
This new online service joins Wisconsin DMV’s extensive online offerings. Eligible and interested applicants should visit Wisconsin DMV’s website for more info:
