German Car Day
Mercedes-Benz is celebrating 140 years of excellence this year, as both Karl Benz and Gottlieb Daimler were granted patents for their automobiles within a few weeks of each other in 1886. Both companies were successful rivals until the depression of post World War I Germany. As a result, on June 28, 1926, Benz & Cie. and Daimler-Motoren-Gesellschaft (DMG), maker of the Mercedes, formally merged to form Daimler-Benz AG. This union consolidated their engineering teams and birthed the legendary Mercedes-Benz brand. The new logo encompassed DMG's three-pointed star with Benz's laurel wreath.
Celebrating this milestone, European Auto Solutions teamed up with Archive to set up an amazing exhibition at Larz Anderson’s German Car Day on Father’s Day 2026. Between all the artwork, the display included a 1911 Benz “Victoria” 50HP, a 1955 300SL “Gullwing”, a 1959 300d “Adenauer’, a 1962 190D “Ponton”, a 1963 Unimog 404, a 1965 190 ‘Fintail’ Rally Car, a 1970 280SE 3.5 Coupe, a 1970 280SL, a 1972 280SE Sedan, a 1984 300TDT Estate, a 1986 560SL, a 1991 190E 2.5 EVO II, a 2012 SLS ‘Gullwing”, and a 2012 SLS ‘Roadster’.
German Car Day has quickly become one of the Museum's largest events. With Mother Nature's blessing, it turned out to be the most attended one yet. We really enjoyed all the conversations about our favorite marque, the sharing of the history, and the participation we had with all the owners of the display vehicles. Many thanks to the Larz Anderson Auto Museum for organizing such a great show and providing us with all that quality space as our canvas! Shout out to all out team members that made this happen!

This 2009 Maybach '62' is off to its new owner after servicing here at EAS. With only 8k original miles, it features a drivetrain powered by the “M285” 543 horsepower twin-turbo 5.5-liter V12 producing 664 lb-ft of torque. Loaded with every option available that year, it features the electro-transparent panoramic rear sunroof in the spacious rear cabin. The double 'M' in the logo represents Maybach Motorenbau, a company founded by legendary Mercedes designer Wilhelm Maybach.

We recently held our 18th MBCA Minuteman Section Open House/Tech Session. Despite the Spring weather that has been reluctant to show itself, we had the best turnout in years! Plenty of different models of our favorite marque. Each member was given 15 minutes of lift time with a technician to learn about and inspect their vehicle. Door prizes were fun and provided by EAS, Archive, and Mercedes-Benz of Westwood. "Member of the Year 2025" was posthumously awarded to our team member Tom Owen who passed in 2025. The award was received by EAS team members Ed Owen (son) and Denton Owen (grandson). Thank you to all the participants, club members, and the talented staff of EAS for a great event!

'THE ULTIMATE DRIVING MACHINE'
The BMW E30 was the second generation of the famed BMW 3-Series and was produced from 1982 to 1994, replacing the E21 3-Series. Development of the E30 began in July 1976, with styling developed under chief designer Claus Luthe and exterior styling led by Boyke Boyer. In 1978, the final design was approved and in 1979 was designated with a design freeze. What is a design freeze? It is the critical project milestone where after initial planning and approvals, no further major changes are allowed for specific design elements to ensure stability. BMW's launch film for the E30 showed the design process that included cutting edge Computer-Aided Design (CAD), crash testing, and wind-tunnel testing. The car was released in the end of November of 1982 and went on to become an icon of the 80's.
New to the EAS collection is this 1986 E30 325e, featured in Bronzit Beige Metallic (139) with 66k original miles. Drivetrain features the 2.7 Liter engine mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. The "e" is taken from "eta", the Greek letter for efficiency. The efficiency-focused model features the inline-six engine (M20B27) designed for high torque at low RPM, offering a comfortable cruising experience with superior fuel economy for its time.

Happy First Day of Spring!
