BLAKE SHUPE, ADAM GILLIATT, DAVID CREED, JIMMY COOPER
BRANDON CTOTTS & COREY WYATT VISIT CARAWAY VICTORY LANE
(Sophia, NC): On a hot “Ladies Night” at Caraway Speedway, the on-track action only added to the temperature.
In the featured Charger division, round two of the five race “Charger Challenge” saw Trey Burke put the Ross Dalton Racing #50 on the point edging Brody Duggins for the “pole”. The top six redraw put Blake Shupe on the point for the start. Shupe led the first dozen laps before Burke, Duggins, Matthew Smith and newcomer to Caraway Owen Wilson moved past with Shupe and Charger points leader Tyler Bush in tow. The twelve car field settled in for the ride to the lap-50 break.
During the break, teams were allowed to make adjustments before heading out for the 25 lap sprint to the finish. A roll of the “big orange dice” by a fan saw only the top two spots inverted for the restart.
It only tooK a lap before Burke reclaimed the top spot with Duggins, Smith, Wilson, Shupe and Bush in tow. As the laps wound down, the contenders dropped by the wayside with Wilson being the first out. Then with less than ten laps remaining the engine on the #50 of Burke expired leaving a lot of clean-up for the Caraway track crew and Duggins on the point with a pack of hungry racers on his tail. On the restart Duggins maintained the lead and as the laps wound down, Shupe settled into second spot with Bush and Smith close behind. They ended the race in that order with Joseph Ciszek in 5th. Post race inspection found the carburetor on the Duggins car not meeting division rules, handing the win to Shupe. The shuffle moved Derek Kearns up to fifth with Tyler Ashley, Burke, Brian Melville, Jr., Wilson, Nathan Quella and Odell Graham completing the finish order. The win makes Shupe and Duggins eligible for a $2,000.00 bonus for any driver that wins three of the five “Charger Challenge” events.
In the first of two twenty lapper for the 602 Modifieds, Adam Gilliatt took the win in his first-ever Caraway Speedway start in a 602 Mod. He bested division point leader, David Creed for the win. Cole Mizio was third with Katlin Tarantino, Brian Weber, Rita Goulet and Dustin Coonfield rounding out the field. In race two, Creed flipped the script on Gilliatt to claim the win. Weber finished third with Tarantino, Mizio and Goulet in tow.
Jimmy Cooper continued his hot streak in the UCAR division. Cooper took the win over Josh Phillips, Justin Smith, Tito Clapp, Jamie Vance, Jake Cline, Kenny Bowman, Ben Hanks, Mason Vance, Cody Foland, Austin Cooper and JJ Foland. Clapp and Hanks won five lap qualifying heats for the UCARS.
Brandon Crotts and Jason Gallimore doubled up in their respective Mini Stock division, Crotts took the overall win in both 10 lap races in his RWD Mini Stock with Gallimore in tow in his FWD Mini in race one. Cody Gwynn finished third ahead of Matt Alley, Mason Tucker, Issac Wright, Mason Troxler, Steven Hedrick, “Wild” Bill, Daniel Day and Michael Tucker. Tucker is always a threat to win but his car was heavily damaged in a practice crash.
In race two, Crotts bested Mason Troxler for the overall win with Gwynn in third followed by Gallimore, Alley, Hedrick, Wright, “Wild” Bill, Day and Mason Tucker.
Corey Wyatt took both 10 lap features for the Crown Vic division besting Ricky Sweat, Bubba Cline and Ricky Jones in each race.
Going in circles takes a back seat for action at Caraway Speedway as the 336 Meets crew takes over the track on June 20th.
Racing returns on June 27th with “NC Appreciation Night” at Caraway Speedway. Free admission to everyone in the grandstands and on trackside to enjoy racing for the Chargers, Mini Stocks, UCARS, Crown Vics and a visit by the Grand National Super Series running “twin” 50 lap features for the popular division.
