Installing a new cam in this LS 5.3 and checking how smoothly it moves through the cam bearings.

The cam retainer plate will also be replaced to avoid a possible oil-pressure leak around the seal. Now we just need to hear how it sounds.

Made some solid progress on the Captain Crunch 5.3 today.

The Melling oil pump is on, the BTR Truck Norris cam is installed, and the engine is finally starting to come together.

What do you think this setup is going to sound like?

POV: Your shock absorber is finally telling you what’s wrong. 😩

Oil leaks, excessive bouncing and a floaty ride may be signs that your shocks or struts are worn.

The right replacement depends on your vehicle, suspension setup and how you drive—from daily commuting to towing and off-road use.

Is your vehicle bouncing more than usual or feeling unstable on the road? Your shocks or struts may be worn.

Common warning signs include:

⚠️ Excessive bouncing after bumps
⚠️ Nose-diving during braking
⚠️ Uneven or cupped tire wear
⚠️ Fluid leaking from the shock or strut
⚠️ Clunking noises from the suspension
⚠️ Poor handling around turns

Choose the right replacement for how you drive:

🚗 Daily driving — OE-style ride comfort
🛻 Towing or hauling — heavy-duty damping
🏔️ Off-road driving — application-specific off-road shocks
🏁 Performance driving — sport-tuned shocks and struts

Always confirm the vehicle’s year, make, model, drivetrain, ride height and suspension configuration before ordering. Replace shocks or struts in axle pairs for balanced performance.

Note: Heavy-duty shocks can improve damping, but they do not increase the vehicle’s factory payload or towing capacity.

Is your vehicle making a clunking noise over bumps?

A worn shock absorber may have lost its damping resistance, but the noise can also come from a damaged mount, sway bar link, suspension bushing or loose hardware.

Watch how to diagnose the problem and what to check during installation. Always support the vehicle safely and tighten all hardware to factory specifications.
