1952 Packard Mayfair 250 Hardtop Coupe β Custom Build - 374 V8 β 700R4 β A/C β Disc Brakes
$19,900
Offered for sale is a truly unique 1952 Packard Mayfair 250 Hardtop Coupe that combines classic Packard styling with thoughtful performance and drivability upgrades.
This is not your ordinary 1952 Mayfair.
Power comes from a later 1956 Packard 374 cubic-inch V8, backed by a General Motors 700R4 automatic overdrive transmission. Additional upgrades include front disc brakes and air conditioning, making this Packard far more enjoyable to drive in modern traffic than a completely stock example.
A Very Unusual Packard
Take a close look at the body and you'll notice something is different.
We have been told that sometime during the 1980s, a talented custom car builder modified this Mayfair using the rear section of a 1952 Packard Patrician, giving the car additional length and creating what was essentially the builder's interpretation of the large luxury hardtop coupe that Packard could have offered to compete more directly with Cadillac.
One interesting visual clue is the row of decorative trim pieces along the rear quarter panel. A standard 1952 Mayfair typically has three of the distinctive "bottle opener" style trim pieces, while this car has four, reflecting the additional body length.
The story behind the car was relayed to us by an individual involved with a Packard organization who remembers seeing the car at a show during the 1980s and speaking with the builder at that time.
We want to be clear that we do not have documentation detailing exactly how the body modifications were performed, so we are representing the history as it was told to us rather than making claims we cannot independently verify. We encourage knowledgeable Packard enthusiasts to study the photos carefully.
Whatever the complete story may be, the end result is an exceptionally interesting automobile that looks remarkably natural. Unless you're familiar with these cars, you may not immediately realize just how much is different from a standard Mayfair.

Unique Packard with fascinating history
Most importantly, this car is an absolute joy to drive. The big Packard V8 provides plenty of power, the overdrive transmission makes highway driving much more comfortable, the front disc brakes are a welcome upgrade, and the air conditioning adds another level of usability.
The car presents extremely well and is in excellent condition. It has the presence of a much more expensive custom automobile without the price tag normally associated with one-off vintage builds.
Whether you're a Packard enthusiast, collector, or simply someone looking for something completely different to take to shows and cruise nights, this is a tremendous amount of automobile for the money.
You probably won't park next to another one.
