1993 GMC Typhoon — The SUV That Changed the Rules 🇺🇸🔥

Today, powerful SUVs are everywhere. In the early ’90s, however, the idea of a compact SUV delivering serious sports-car performance was almost unheard of.

Then came the GMC Typhoon.

Under the hood sits a turbocharged 4.3L V6 with an intercooler, producing around 280 horsepower and 360 lb-ft of torque. Power goes through a 4-speed automatic and full-time AWD, giving this compact GMC remarkable traction and brutally quick acceleration.

GMC backed up the power with a sport-tuned suspension, limited-slip rear differential, self-leveling rear suspension, unique bodywork, and 16-inch alloy wheels.

Inside, it was surprisingly civilized for something this quick, with leather seating, power adjustments, air conditioning, cruise control, and a premium audio system.

The most amazing part? The Typhoon looked like a small utility vehicle, but its performance could embarrass much more exotic machinery of the era.
