Hay for Sale! Friends of the Fair sent an email communication this morning, Monday July 7th, informing us that we have until Monday July 21st to remove the hay from the property, either by selling it or finding another place to store it. If we do not remove it by this date they have said that they will quote “Dispose of it”. Anyone interested in purchasing hay, or anyone able to help move any hay that doesn’t get sold by July 21st please call Greg @863-557-6872. $2.50 per bale or $3200 for the lot of 1600+ bales.

We regret to inform everyone that Greg Basom will no longer be holding The Ironwood Snowmobile Olympus at the Gogebic County Fairgrounds.

In previous years the county has allowed us the use of the facility for free, provided we paid the excess water and power during the time we are allowed to use it. The new management organization, a non profit named Friends of the Fair, wants to charge us $2500 for the use of the facility, a $500 “Security deposit” and $1000 to be paid prior to each race, in addition to those water/power bills which we would still have to pay, and with no contractual guarantee that we will have access to some of the equipment needed for the track building process, such as the water truck.

Thank you very much to everyone who supported Greg as he tried to keep the sport alive in Ironwood. We look forward to seeing everyone at the races, just because we are no longer hosting a race at the Gogebic County Fairgrounds does not mean that we intend to walk away from the sport entirely. It was great while it lasted but all good things must come to an end.

Thank you
Greg

Any rumors regarding Greg Basom resigning as Promoter of the Ironwood Snowmobile Olympus are just that… unsubstanciated RUMORS.

The FACTS as they currently stand are: the fairgrounds is under new management. Once they are established we expect to receive communication from them regarding the race and we hope that we will be able to come to an agreement that will be satisfactory to both parties and allow us to continue to hold this event, both for the community and the participants. That being said those communications have not happened yet. Absolutely zero decisions regarding the race will be made until they do happen. If we are able to come to an agreement, Greg intends to continue to do exactly what he has done in the past, make a track and promote racing. If we are not able to come to an agreement, then we will cross that bridge if we come to it and figure out our next steps. Right now we would rather maintain a positive outlook and hope we can foster a good working relationship with the new property management organization.

In closing I would like to remind everyone that Greg is one of the most straightforward, honest, no BS type individuals you’ll ever meet. As such if you ever hear anyone bring him up in conversation, before you repeat that conversation it is highly recommended that you go to him and double check your facts first, irregardless of how good you thought your sources were.

When we make any actual decisions in regards to the race I promise Greg will make certain that I get it posted here immediately. If you didn’t hear it on this page or directly from Greg himself then it is nothing more than gossip.
