🚘 THROWBACK THURSDAY CAR FACT! 🖤🔧

Did you know African American inventor Richard B. Spikes received U.S. Patent 1,889,814 for an improved automatic gear-shift mechanism in 1932? His design was intended to improve how gears were selected and engaged in motor vehicles. He later patented additional transmission technology as well.

Spikes was a prolific inventor whose automotive work also included a brake-testing machine and an automatic safety-brake system.

💡 THROWBACK THOUGHT: So much of the technology we take for granted when we get behind the wheel was shaped by inventors whose stories many of us were never taught.
