The past couple weeks I have really been all over the place with seasonal change.
The wire photos belonged to a Ford shuttle bus. The issue was a shorted wire on the running lights and was blowing fuses instantly. This thing was really bad! I repaired all of the corroded wires in multiple locations and still a short on the rear main harness. With the amount of time I had already spent, I ran my own wire and cut out the shorted wire and rebuilt the harness.

‘12 Tundra Concern: Won’t shift from park, lit up like a Christmas tree, and won’t charge.

I noticed the whole hvac system was dead and none of the windows worked also. Fuses all good and has power to the alternator stud. Few codes, but nothing usable. I can’t talk to Abs and driver door modules. This Tundra has a telescoping steering wheel and signs pointing to a potentially bad ignition switch. Moving the steering column in restored power and out it lost it again. Upon taking column covers apart, there’s a service loop acting as a connection to the column when telescoping. In that loop I see a half dozen wires broken in half. The alternator not charging the battery was a 7.5a fuse that was mistakenly put back in the wrong place prior to me.

Diagnosed and repaired!

Inoperative tail light in this Chevy Silverado. My guess would be that it’s been broken for a while! I was able to mostly fix it, but a new housing, bulb, and pig tail would be best.

The coolant temp and fuel level gauges went out on this VW Gulf. I was really dreading having to pull the gauge cluster out for testing! I got both to confirm that the wiring and cluster were fine by using a veritable resistor that I built a while back for this exact purpose. I’m grounding the signal pin with it and can adjust the gauges by turning the potentiometer.

The speedometer is also not working. I’ll be back to scope the vehicle speed sensor very soon.

There were no 37year old clusters harmed in the making of this diag!
