Emporia State comes home undefeated after taking care of business on the road in Minot, North Dakota, and Pittsburg, Kansas. Now the stage is set for a Top 25 matchup at Welch Stadium. Two nationally ranked teams. One field. And an opportunity to make an early statement!

There’s something different about football in Emporia when the Hornets come home undefeated. This team has already proven it can walk into somebody else’s house and get the job done. Now they get to come home.

And a new chapter begins on Blackcreek Diesel Field at Welch Stadium.

THE BLACKCREEK DIESEL FIELD ERA BEGINS WITH A TOP 25 SHOWDOWN

There could not be a better way to open a new chapter of Emporia State Football. For the first time, the Emporia State Hornets will take the field at Blackcreek Diesel Field at Welch Stadium, and they’ll do it under the national spotlight.

No. 22 Emporia State welcomes No. 23 Michigan Tech to Emporia for a Top 25 showdown and the inaugural football game played on Blackcreek Diesel Field. For Blackcreek Diesel & Automotive, this is more than a name on a field. It represents an investment in Emporia, in Emporia State University, and in the generations of Hornets who will compete here in the years ahead.

For the first game carrying the Blackcreek Diesel Field name, having two nationally ranked programs meet in Emporia makes the occasion even more special.

“When we made the decision to put the Blackcreek Diesel name on this field, we wanted it to represent more than our company. We wanted it to represent hard work, competition, opportunity and pride in this community. To have the first game at Blackcreek Diesel Field feature two nationally ranked football teams is about as fitting as we could have hoped for.”

Saturday will mark the beginning of something new while continuing one of Emporia’s great traditions, the community coming together at Welch Stadium to support the Hornets. For Blackcreek Diesel & Automotive, a locally built company with deep roots in Emporia, seeing the Blackcreek Diesel Field name become part of that tradition is something we are incredibly proud of.

As students return to Emporia State University, it’s pretty special to see Blackcreek Diesel Field ready for its first school year.

This partnership has always meant more to us than a name on a football field. It represents a commitment to Emporia State, Hornet Athletics, our community, and the next generation of students and athletes who call Emporia home.

Seeing the Blackcreek Diesel & Automotive name on the field is something our entire team can be proud of. Every technician, operator, customer, and business partner who has supported us over the years has played a part in allowing Blackcreek to give back to the community that helped build us.
