Black Canyon Raceway hosted two-nights of racing action for the Gem Cup on May 1st and 2nd. Drivers across seven divisions competed for top honors and a share of enhanced prize purses, with the top point earners in each class being crowned Gem Cup Champions. To commemorate the event, E&E Siding and Custom Projects created unique custom solid aluminum Gem Cup Championship trophies featuring a backlit gemstone.
Friday night’s qualifying sessions set a historic tone for the weekend with two track records being shattered. Levi Green established a new track record for the K1 RaceGear Box Stock division with a time of 12.910. In the Unlimited All-Stars class, Daniel Watkins also etched his name into the record books, setting a track record with a blistering lap of 12.401.
Restricted Box Stock
Kobe Burman of Lewiston, ID, was crowned the Gem Cup Champion in the Restricted Box Stock division, finishing the weekend with 191 points. Burman secured the win in Friday’s main event after starting from the pole. Neva Crow took second in the overall standings with 186 points, followed by Skylar Tweedie in third with 185 points. Tweedie found the winner's circle on Saturday night, capturing the A Feature victory. The division was supported by a points fund from Crown Rentals and Services, while Trenching Services provided a fast time bonus.
K1 RaceGear Box Stock
Caldwell’s Levi Green dominated the K1 RaceGear Box Stock class to earn the championship with 198 points. Green swept the weekend, winning the A Feature on both Friday and Saturday nights. Joey Dornan finished second in the championship hunt with 182 points, while Reed Gaythwaite secured third with 172 points. Kyle Tellstrom racing provided additional support for this division throughout the event.
Hammer Down Trucking 250
In the Hammer Down Trucking 250 class, Mason Green of Caldwell took home the championship trophy with 191 points. Green won the feature on Friday night , while Bryce Tomassi, who finished second in the standings with 189 points, claimed Saturday’s main event win. Bryson Hull rounded out the top three with 176 points. Hammer Down Trucking continued their long-standing support of the class by contributing additional funds to the nightly payouts and the weekend points purse.
Bell Helmets 500 Open
Mason Muraira of Greenleaf, ID, proved unbeatable in the Bell Helmets 500 Open division, winning both nightly features despite starting from the fourth position each time. Muraira earned the championship with 192 points. Dayne Amyx finished second in the standings with 182 points, and Bentley Hull took third with 170 points. The class received additional purse support from Boise Speed Factory and Whittaker Drywall.
PBT Auto Sales Caged Clones
The Caged Clones division saw intense competition among large fields, with Casey Tillman of Kuna, ID, emerging as the champion with 191 points. Tillman won Friday’s main event from the pole , while Saturday’s winner, Lucas Tellstrom, finished second in points with 183. David Elsts completed the top three with 176 points. This division enjoyed an increased purse thanks to contributions from Volt Up Electric and E&E Siding.
Unlimited All-Stars
James King of Pinehurst, ID, secured the Unlimited All-Stars championship with 185 points , aided by a victory in Friday’s A Feature. Daniel Watkins, Saturday’s feature winner and track record holder, finished second in the standings with 179 points. Ronnie Cox finished third overall with 176 points.
Senior 4
Dale Smitchger of Boise, ID, claimed the Senior 4 championship with 189 points. Smitchger took the win on Friday night and followed up by sweeping Saturday’s qualifying and heat race. Klett Bergerson finished second in the standings with 170 points, and Tiffany Shawer took third with 96 points after winning Saturday's 12-lap feature.
Black Canyon Raceway will return to action Friday May 15th with all Outlaw Kart Divisions.
