Our turbo kit components are TIG welded by hand, then brought into our in-house coating booth where we apply a high-temperature ceramic coating.

Beyond a clean, durable finish, ceramic coating helps manage radiant heat, reduce underhood temperatures, and protect components against corrosion and oxidation.

Aisin AS69RC Overview | Part 5 of 5

We’re wrapping up the series with Part 5 of our AS69RC valve body testing on the Hydra-Test.

In Part 4, we showed how we put the valve body through controlled hydraulic testing. Now we’re taking a closer look at the results and what they tell us about the condition of the valve body.

By commanding the solenoids and cycling the spool valves, we can watch how the hydraulic circuits respond, verify pressure, and pinpoint areas where pressure may be leaking off internally.

This process gives us more than an inspection or an educated guess. We can actually see how the valve body performs and verify that the repairs and modifications are doing what they’re supposed to do.

When the AS69RC goes back together, we want to know the valve body can control, direct, and maintain the pressure the transmission needs.

Aisin AS69RC Overview | Part 4 of 5

We’ve covered the solenoids and spool valves—now it’s time to see how we test the AS69RC valve body on the Hydra-Test.

The Hydra-Test allows us to operate the valve body under controlled hydraulic conditions and see what’s actually happening inside the circuits. Instead of relying on a visual inspection alone, we can monitor pressure, command solenoids, cycle spool valves, and identify internal leaks or pressure loss.

This is where problems that can be difficult to identify on the bench start to show themselves.

Testing gives us the ability to verify that the valve body is responding correctly and delivering pressure where it needs to go before it ever makes its way back into the transmission.

Part 5 is next—we’ll take the testing even further and show what the data tells us.

Aisin AS69RC Overview | Part 3 of 5

For Part 3, we’re inside the valve body, focusing on the solenoids and spool valves that control the hydraulic operation of the AS69RC.

The solenoids command changes in fluid flow and pressure, while the spool valves direct that fluid through the correct hydraulic circuits. Both have to work together correctly for the transmission to respond to commands and apply the right pressure at the right time.

Spool valve movement, wear, sticking, and internal leakage can all affect what’s actually happening hydraulically inside the valve body.

That’s why precision assembly is only part of the process.

In Parts 4 and 5, we’ll get into how ATS tests the valve body and verifies what the solenoids, spool valves, and hydraulic circuits are actually doing under operating conditions.

Aisin AS69RC Overview | Part 2 of 5

In Part 1, we looked at how sealing surfaces and delivery rings can contribute to a major loss in line pressure. Part 2 takes a closer look at the bushing we machine to address the root of that problem.

Excessive movement and endplay can prevent the delivery rings from maintaining a consistent seal. That lost seal means lost pressure—and in an AS69RC, pressure is everything.

Our solution is a precision-machined bushing designed to reduce that movement and tighten endplay. By better controlling the assembly, the delivery rings are able to stay properly positioned against their sealing surfaces and maintain the hydraulic pressure the transmission needs.

It’s a relatively small component addressing a much bigger problem: keeping pressure inside the circuit instead of allowing it to leak off.

We’re breaking down the Aisin AS69RC in a 5-part series, with a new episode dropping each day.

Part 1: Sealing Surfaces & Line Pressure

The Aisin AS69RC depends on maintaining proper line pressure—and sealing surfaces play a major role in making that happen.

One issue we see is excessive movement and endplay allowing the delivery rings to lose their seal. Once that happens, line pressure can drop dramatically—from around 260 PSI down to 160 PSI—taking away the pressure the transmission needs to operate properly.

At ATS, we address the problem by machining a bushing that reduces movement and tightens endplay. This helps the delivery rings maintain a proper seal and keeps line pressure where it belongs.
