Hot rod fabrication is a true labor of love—an intricate process that demands time, patience, and an unwavering attention to detail. It’s not a task that can be rushed; every step requires precision, skill, and a deep understanding of metalwork.
From hours of meticulous welding to beating and shaping metal into perfect forms, each component is crafted with care. Fabricators often spend countless hours working on a single part, carefully welding, then allowing the metal to relax and stabilize before continuing. This pause is crucial to prevent warping and to ensure the integrity of the structure.
Shawn’s patience and attention to detail are absolutely imperative in this process. His methodical approach ensures that every curve, bend, and joint is carefully formed, often by hand, to achieve the desired aesthetic and performance. Rushing can lead to imperfections or structural weaknesses, but Shawn’s dedication to precision guarantees a high-quality build.
It's important to recognize that fabrication work and general "body work" are two different animals. While both require skill and finesse, fabrication involves shaping and welding raw metal into structural and custom components, whereas body work focuses on smoothening, finishing, and cosmetic detailing. Both are crucial, but they demand different techniques and mindsets.

🚗💥 Well, look who’s back from the land of Guinness and good craic! That’s right — we’re back in the hot rod shop, ready to unleash some serious project car madness. 🛠️🔥

After a bit of Ireland withdrawal (seriously, I was dreaming of castles and rainbows), we're finally back to getting our hands dirty, cracking jokes, and pretending we know what we're doing with these custom builds. 😅🍀

Whether it’s finding that elusive bolt that vanished into the ether or arguing with the car about who’s boss — spoiler: it’s always the car — we’re all in. Let’s make some noise, break a few tools, and maybe even build something that’ll make Ireland jealous. 🇮🇪🚗

Good morning, FB world! Stacy here. ❤️

As most of you know, Shawn and I recently had the opportunity to experience the vacation of a lifetime with my son, daughter-in-law, and our grandkids. It was an amazing trip filled with memories that we will cherish forever.

Leading up to the trip, Shawn and I went back and forth about whether we should cancel because of the recent loss of his son, Tyler. Ultimately, we both agreed that getting away for a little while was something we desperately needed. We needed time away from the shop, the phones, the responsibilities, and everything that had consumed our lives over the last several weeks. We needed a chance to simply rest, reset, and spend time with family.

Shawn has experienced more loss than anyone should have to endure. Losing his wife and then losing their son has been incredibly difficult, and there really aren't words to describe what these last several weeks have been like for him. He needed the opportunity to step away from everything for a little while, catch his breath, regain his focus, and find his footing again.

To our customers, friends, and everyone who has supported Bad Habit Motorsports through all of this—we truly cannot thank you enough. Your patience, understanding, kindness, and continued support have meant more to us than you probably realize. ❤️

Now, with all of that being said...

VACATION IS OVER. 😂🔧

Monday morning, it's back to reality—and apparently reality includes grease, busted knuckles, cars that don't want to cooperate, parts that swear they're supposed to fit but absolutely DO NOT, and Shawn staring at an engine bay like it has personally offended him. 😂

I'm sure within the first few hours I'll hear at least one, "Who designed this crap?!" followed shortly by some colorful mechanic vocabulary that definitely won't make it onto Facebook. 🤣

And honestly? We're ready for it.

We'll be back in the shop bright and early Monday morning, rested, recharged, and ready to get our hands dirty again. We've got vehicles waiting, projects to finish, ideas we're excited about, and probably at least one car sitting there plotting against Shawn while we've been gone. 😏

The last several weeks have reminded us just how quickly life can change. They've also reminded us how fortunate we are to have an incredible family, amazing customers, and a business we genuinely love.

So here's to getting back to Bad Habit Motorsports, turning some wrenches, making some noise, and seeing what this next chapter has in store for us.

Thank you for sticking with us through one of the hardest chapters of our lives. We appreciate every single one of you more than we can say.

Good morning everyone,

Shawn here.

I know many of you have reached out by phone, text, social media, or even stopped by the shop, and I want you to know how much I appreciate the kindness, prayers, and support. It truly means more than I can put into words.

That said, it's all been very overwhelming. Stacy has been handling my calls, texts, and messages so I can focus on work when I'm able and begin trying to process everything that's happened.

Losing Tyler is something I never could have prepared for. Because of the circumstances surrounding his passing, there have been legal matters and procedures that our family has had to navigate—things I never imagined we'd be facing. Out of respect for Tyler and our family, I will not be discussing the details with anyone, and I ask that you please respect that decision.

I know I've been away from the shop more than usual while trying to take care of everything, and it has put us behind. I sincerely appreciate everyone's patience and understanding. Stacy and I are working as hard as we can to get caught back up.

If you currently have a vehicle with us and haven't heard from Stacy yet, you will soon. She has been working tirelessly to keep everyone updated on timelines and progress. If you've spoken with her or received a message from her, please know she has discussed everything with me before responding. Right now, I'm simply not in a place where I can talk about what has happened.

I know many of you have questions. The truth is, I don't have the answers you're looking for, and even if I did, I have chosen to keep this a private family matter. If you know me well, you know I've always been a private person, and that's not going to change.

Thank you for your continued prayers, your patience, and your understanding. They mean more to Stacy and me than you'll ever know.

🌞 Summer Hours Update 🌞

Well... we were really hoping we wouldn't have to make this announcement again, but Mother Nature had other plans. 🥵

Due to the extreme heat in the shop, we are adjusting our summer hours once again. Effective immediately, our shop hours will be:

🕕 6:00 AM – 3:00 PM

The truth is, we're already in the shop by 6:00 AM every morning. We had hoped to continue working until 5:00 PM, but with the temperatures we've been experiencing, it's simply become too hot to safely do so.

Starting earlier allows us to take advantage of the cooler morning hours while continuing to give every vehicle the attention, care, and quality workmanship it deserves.

We truly appreciate your understanding and continued support as we work through another Texas summer. If you need to schedule service, give us a call or send us a message—we're always happy to help!

Need to drop off or pick up your vehicle after 3:00 PM? No problem! We know our summer hours don't work for everyone's schedule, so we're more than happy to meet you back at the shop after hours. Just let us know, and we'll make arrangements.

Thank you for supporting our small business and understanding that keeping our crew safe during these extreme temperatures has to come first.

Tyler Shane Qualls-Ratliff

Tyler Shane Qualls-Ratliff, 26, passed away unexpectedly on July 20, 2026. He was born on August 13, 1999, to Zenda Ratliff.

Tyler was employed by North Amarillo Auto Parts, where he worked as an Inventory Clerk, Delivery Driver, and, as many would say, the "wearer of many hats." He was always willing to lend a hand and take on whatever task was needed. While he was dependable and hardworking, those who knew him best would tell you there was one guarantee—he always did things "Tyler's way," and that was part of what made him so unforgettable.

Tyler attended River Road High School, where he was a proud member of the River Road Band. He enjoyed music, but one of his greatest passions was gaming. He spent countless hours online with friends, building lasting friendships and creating memories that extended far beyond the screen.

Tyler is survived by his stepfather, Shawn Ratliff; his uncle, Lynn Ratliff; his aunt, Edwina "Weezer" Ratliff; his grandmother, Patsy Ratliff; and many cherished friends whose lives he touched.

Tyler was preceded in death by his mother, Zenda; his aunt, Darlene; his grandfather, Dan; and his grandmother, Barbara.

In accordance with the family's wishes, no formal services will be held at this time. A celebration of Tyler's life will be announced at a later date.
