When the engine-temperature warning appears, your car isn’t asking you to keep an eye on it.

It’s telling you the engine may be overheating.

If it comes on while driving, find a safe place to pull over, switch off the engine and allow the vehicle to cool. Avoid opening the cooling system while it is hot.

Overheating can have several causes, from low coolant or leaks to cooling-system faults and continuing to drive may turn one problem into a much larger one.
