"You need a whole new gearbox." That is what a lot of Audi owners brace for when the DSG warning light comes on. Often it is not true. 👇

This Audi A3 came in with a gearbox warning light and a DSG that was jerking and hesitating on every shift. Sometimes it felt like it would not even select a gear. A scan and a road test pointed to one thing: a fault in the mechatronic unit, the electronic brain that controls the dual-clutch box. The gears and clutches themselves were healthy.

So we fitted a reconditioned mechatronic unit, coded it to the car and road tested it. Smooth shifts again, warning light gone, and far cheaper than a new gearbox. Stop-start traffic and our heat are hard on these units, so the first jerky shift is the time to get it checked.

"Just change the spark plugs, should be fine." It wasn't. Here's what was really going on. 👇

This Nissan Qashqai suddenly lost power on a drive. Running rough, engine warning on, no pull. A workshop had already swapped the spark plugs, but the car drove exactly the same. That's the giveaway. When fresh plugs change nothing, the fault is deeper than ignition.

A scan can tell you a cylinder is misfiring. It cannot tell you why. So we opened the cylinder head, and there it was: a defective valve, worn and no longer sealing. That one cylinder had lost compression, which is exactly why the power dropped off all at once. We reconditioned the head, replaced the bad valve, and renewed the timing chain, water pump and belt while the engine was open. It starts and drives like it should again.

If your car suddenly loses power and someone tells you "just change the plugs" while it still runs rough, get it checked properly first. Happy to share more on our engine repairs too.

Porsche PDK throwing a gearbox fault and an overheating warning after a long drive? Don't just keep driving through it. 👇

This Porsche flashed a gearbox fault, then a drive temperature too high message after about 40 minutes. A PDK is cooled by its own fluid through a heat exchanger, so when something in that chain fails, the heat has nowhere to go. We worked it in stages: a worn oil pan was leaking fluid, then faulty coolant changeover valves, then a temperature sensor inside the valve body reading wrong. We fixed each one with original Porsche parts and road tested it. Temperatures back to normal.

Audi A4 leaking coolant badly, with the tank running dry? Don't just keep topping it up. 👇

This A4 came in on a tow, losing coolant faster than we could fill it, and seeping engine oil too. So we pressure tested the cooling system properly. The leaks showed up everywhere: tired rubber hoses, the thermostat and water pump area, and the expansion tank, plus oil weeping from the timing covers and sump. We replaced the lot with genuine parts, pressure tested and road tested it. Holds again.

A coolant leak that runs dry can overheat and damage the engine, so catch it early.

Most workshops in Singapore won’t even show you their prices online. You have to call, wait, negotiate, and hope the number doesn’t change once your car is already taken apart.

Aircon blowing warm in this heat? The kind of drive where windows down still does nothing? 👇

This Volvo V60 came in with the aircon not cold anymore. It had been topped up before, but the cold never lasted. We checked the full system and traced it to a leaking, corroded evaporator coil hidden behind the dashboard. On a leaking coil, no amount of regassing keeps it cold, the gas just escapes again.

We took the dashboard out, replaced the evaporator coil and the expansion valve, then vacuumed and regassed the system and tested it cold. Blowing properly cold again, and backed by at least a 6-month warranty on the repair.
