Bentley S2 gearbox rebuild underway.
These are seriously heavy, solid cast units — built in an era when engineering was driven by longevity rather than cost. To handle and assemble it correctly, we’ve produced a dedicated factory-style fixture in-house.
The gearbox is based on the early 4-speed Hydramatic, originally developed by General Motors in the 1940s. Rolls-Royce Motors adopted the concept, but extensively refined it to achieve their own standards of smoothness and silence.
As part of the rebuild, the unit is fully stripped, cleaned and inspected. All clutches, seals and wear components are replaced, with clearances checked and adjusted to ensure correct operation.
Once completed, the gearbox will deliver the smooth, effortless drive these cars are known for.
