ML Drive Time School of Motoring

ML Drive Time School of Motoring My name is Matt from ML Drive Time which is a driving school covering Wakefield and most parts of Leeds.

I am a fully qualified experienced Instructor who has experience teaching students with varying learning styles and needs. We provide both theory and practical training and show you all the correct procedures for driving in traffic. We’re dedicated to helping you get your driving licence. That’s why we’ll tailor each lesson to suit your needs and unique learning style. We pride ourselves on the hi

gh standard of tuition we deliver in teaching learners of all ages and all abilities. We are great with helping nervous pupils and we have a good understanding of different teaching techniques which are regularly used within our driving lessons. We firmly believe in a client-centred approach to training. We use modern coaching practices to encourage our learners to think independently and to make safe choices when driving. Some people seem to be born for the driver’s seat, while others take a bit longer to get the hang of it. That’s why ML Drive Time is a are fully qualified DVSA approved driving instructor, CRB checked and I am passionate about teaching students to drive safely for life. When you're learning, it's important to feel comfortable behind the wheel at all times. ML Drive Time car is reliable, well maintained, easy to handle and fitted with dual controls. Plus I have the training and expertise to keep you and the car safe. "If you’re looking for a driving school that provides excellent tuition, good value for money, that makes lessons fun then ML Drive Time School of Motoring is the one to pick!"

What do people think?

🚗 This is actually happening, but PLEASE read where before everybody panics.
There has been so much confusion on recent enquiries .

From 1 October 2026, Northern Ireland is introducing Graduated Driver Licensing, and some of the changes are substantial.

Learners will have a minimum six-month learning period before they can take their practical driving test.

They will complete a structured programme of training which must be recorded in a logbook.

After passing, new drivers will face restrictions for longer, including night-time passenger restrictions for some newly qualified drivers.

Another big change is motorway driving. Until now, learner drivers in Northern Ireland have not been allowed on motorways.

From October, they will be able to have motorway lessons when accompanied by an Approved Driving Instructor.
Before anyone in Wales, England or Scotland says, “Hang on, we already do that…”
WE DO.

Learners in Great Britain have been allowed on motorways with an ADI in a dual-controlled car since 2018.

So Northern Ireland isn’t introducing something completely new to the rest of us with motorway lessons. They’re bringing their system more in line with what we’ve already been able to offer learners here.

But the six-month minimum learning period and structured training are where I think this becomes particularly interesting for the rest of Great Britain.

Our government has already been looking at ideas around minimum learning periods, supervised learning and a more structured approach to preparing new drivers.

You can teach somebody how to move a car surprisingly quickly.
Clutch. Gears. Steering. Brakes.
But learning to drive is something completely different.
Reading situations. Anticipating other people’s mistakes. Experiencing darkness, rain, rural roads, busy traffic, faster roads and situations you’ve never encountered before.

That takes time and experience.
Passing a driving test should never be about getting somebody through as quickly as possible.
It should be about preparing them for what happens when the instructor and examiner are no longer sitting beside them.

💬 Would you support a minimum six-month learning period being introduced in Wales, England and Scotland too?

You may have seen yellow notices appear around our local schools under the following order

THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF WAKEFIELD
(CIVIL ENFORCEMENT AREA),
(SCHOOL KEEP CLEAR AND PROHIBITION OF STOPPING)
(CONSOLIDATION ORDER 2016) AMENDMENT NUMBER 2 ORDER 2025
WAKEFIELD DISTRICT WIDE

Signs have been put up restricting parking during the indicated times on the sign. Whilst there are zig zag lines already they have often been ignored and unenforced.

The order provides specific offences and they will be enforced by ANPR vehicles which travel the area and automatically fine offenders.

The order is effective from 15 August. So please observe the restrictions.
