𝗦𝗮𝗳𝗲 𝗗𝗿𝗶𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘁𝘀 𝗪𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗚𝗼𝗼𝗱 𝗩𝗶𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻

Eyesight is an issue affecting every single one of Britain’s 42 million+ motorists.

The majority of information needed to drive is visual, and even a minor reduction in vision can slow reaction times, affect hazard perception, make it harder to judge speed and increase fatigue behind the wheel.

At ULTS, we understand how important it is for drivers and businesses to take safety seriously. Good vision is not just about passing a test, it is about protecting yourself, your passengers, your workforce and every other road user.

Legal eyesight standards require drivers to be able to read a car number plate from 20 metres, with glasses or contact lenses if needed. Drivers must also have an adequate field of vision, with more stringent standards applying to those who drive buses, lorries and other larger vehicles.

Uncorrected or defective eyesight can lead to a fine of up to £1,000, penalty points and possible disqualification. More importantly, it can put lives at risk.

Driver takeaway:
Have regular sight tests, at least every two years. If you have been prescribed glasses or contact lenses for driving, make sure you wear them every time you get behind the wheel.

Safe driving starts with good vision. Make sure yours is roadworthy.

Hands-free phone use may be legal in the UK, but that doesn’t mean it is risk-free.

The danger is not simply holding the phone. A conversation can create cognitive distraction, reducing reaction times, hazard awareness and the driver’s ability to process the road environment safely.

Drivers should allow calls to go to voicemail and return them only when safely parked. Employers should also make their mobile phone policies clear, ensuring drivers never feel pressured to answer calls while behind the wheel.

At ULTS, we help drivers and businesses improve safety, confidence and awareness through practical, high-quality training.

Remember: no conversation is worth a collision.
