David Gregory is the latest addition to our already skilled Workshop.
He’s a current Volvo and Polestar Master Technician.
He started his career at a Porsche specialist between 2007 - 2011, then moved to Preston and Blackburn Volvo in March 2011, before becoming an accredited Volvo Master technician in 2014

Has since worked at Huddersfield Volvo and Wakefield Volvo from 2019 until he joined the JH team earlier this month.

Fancy working on an amazing and diverse mix of vehicles, from classic cars, through “normal” everyday cars and right up to the latest Sports, Prestige and Supercars, all in our well equipped and comfortable workshop?
An opportunity has risen for an experienced and passionate technician to join our team in the JH Service department.
This exciting role, working as part of our small team will involve preparing, servicing and maintaining both our constantly changing selection of sales cars, and also our customer’s vehicles.
This includes pre sale VHCs, diagnostics, MOT’s, servicing and all manner of repairs.

A competitive salary will be offered to the right candidate, but obviously that salary will be dependant on experience and current capabilities.

Hi Simon,

I wanted to let you know that I have changed my car, so the Tiguan has gone! – in part exchange for a Yaris Cross hybrid that I am just getting used to. I’ll get it serviced with Toyota because they give an additional year’s warranty up to ten years, so that makes all kinds of sense.

You and the guys have looked after me so well and I will be sorry not to see you from time to time. If I win the lottery, I’ll come back and buy a car from John Holland, so you never know, our paths might cross again in the future!

In the meantime, I am sending you all my best wishes and my sincere thanks for all your care and attention over the past couple of years.

A busman’s day out for our Aftersales Managers Simon and Gary today 🇸🇪

A trip down to the Volvo UK Training Centre for the Volvo Owners Club meeting.

Great to see some of our friends and customers there, but to also catch up with some of the current and ex VCUK Staff that Simon and Gary have known for decades!

The customer complained of an intermittent hesitation when driving.

We could not get the car to fault on roadtest so we had to dive in and investigate.

May has certainly been an interesting and varied month in the JH Service department!
A few images below to show some of the more intersting (and sometimes very dirty!) jobs.

•Land Rover discovery 3.0 for a snapped crankshaft.

•Volvo XC90 Cambelt service

•Volvo 240 Waterpump

•Volvo XC40, came in with hesitation and engine warning lights, diagnosed with Vida to a faulty EGR Valve.

•Volvo XC60, came to us with transmission faults, poor gear changes, slipping gears etc. Diagnosed with Vida and followed the Volvo technical bulletins and found failed input shaft seals.
Stripped and replaced the seals, updated the software to the latest level and recalibrated the gearbox.

•Volvo V90 Classic recovered to us. The engine and gearbox had been replaced over 12 months ago and it’s not run properly since!
After going to two specialists, a transmission specialist, and then an auto electrician, it finally made its way to us.
After a few hours diagnosis into poor crankshaft signals we decided to pull the gearbox off. We found the crankshaft flex plate was 0.45mm out of tolerance and was causing a poor crank signal. (Likely to have been damaged when the gearbox was refitted)
A replacement flex plate was sourced and fitted and now starts and runs like a dream!

•Ferrari Portofino, the customer complained of the windows steaming up and the carpets damp.
After hours of stripping and water testing it was found the water ingress was due to some missing seam sealer on the inner body panels.

• A high mileage XC90 with poor running and an engine that sounded like a tugboat!

After a top end strip it was found that most of exhaust camshaft rockers were worn and the hydraulic tappets had collapsed causing very poor exhaust valve opening.

And Finally…..
This month has seen an unusual amount of rodent damage on several customer vehicles, chewed wires have been causing issues with engine systems, lighting faults, injector faults etc.

Another non-stop few weeks in the John Holland Service department and not even had the opportunity to update our social media!
One of breakthroughs this week has been becoming an approved installer for the fantastic Scorpion Automotive vehicle security systems.
We can now install the “X-Series CanBus immobiliser systems”, and the Insurance and Thatcham approved “ScopionTrack S5” trackers to help keep your vehicle secure and to help against the ever rising insurance premiums!
