🚗 GLOUCESTER TEST DAY TIP: Dealing with Parked Cars & Passing Clearance

If you are taking your practical test at the Gloucester Test Centre, you are guaranteed to spend time navigating tight residential streets packed with parked cars.

Managing clearance and oncoming traffic here is one of the most common places learners pick up faults for steering or judgment.

Here is how to handle these roads flawlessly during your manual driving test:

The 'Mansion, House, Flat' Rule: Always judge your clearance from parked vehicles. If you have a car's width of space to pass, you can maintain normal speed (Mansion). If it gets tighter, drop your speed down to second gear (House). If it's a tight squeeze, crawl past in first gear (Flat).

Look Ahead for Passing Places: Don't just look at the car right in front of you. Scan all the way down the street. If you see an oncoming vehicle, look for a gap on your side to pull into before you get stuck nose-to-nose.

Check Your Mirrors After Passing: Once you clear the obstruction, check your interior and left door mirrors before smoothly moving back over to your normal road position.
