The sleeve "walks" so the holes no longer line up correctly & it can apply the wrong gear at the wrong time !!

Ford modified the drum several times over the years , the latest one has a ledge to stop the metal sleeve moving.

Toyota Land Cruiser A442F transmission

Gearbox computer fault.

It can't make its mind up what voltage to send the TPS on the diesel pump accelerator linkage.

There should never be more than 5 volts

Holds onto 1st gear too long.

New TPS fitted but no difference.

Investigating deeper found the fault to be the engine/gearbox combined computer.

It should feed a steady 5 volts to the potentiometer, which in turn sends back a variable voltage depending on accelerator position, anywhere between 0.5v and 4.5v typically.

This computer won't hold a steady 5v feed so the TPS can never operate properly.

Some gearboxes are shoe-horned into the vehicle.

Here's an Audi RS6+

5HP24A transmission

The twin turbos wrap around the bellhousing so you can't access the bolts.
The only solution is to pull the engine as well.

No wonder they're an expensive job !!
